“You know what, Anson?”

“What?” I ask and take a step toward her.

“I wouldn’t even fuck you with another woman’s pussy,” she retorts. “Now leave me the fuck alone.”

She spins around again and marches down the lit hallway.

Although I should be repulsed by her foul mouth, it only makes me want her more. And that is a problem.

I’ve never experienced anything like this before. My attraction toward her is inexplicable, and I don’t know how to approach this. Clearly, she didn’t fall for my charm the way I expected her to. But maybe that’s a good thing. I’ve never had anyone see through my charm, and it bothers me. It’s as though I’m making it my mission to get her to let me in. In more ways than one. I’ve already rubbed her the wrong way. But maybe I can turn it around.

It’ll be morning in a few hours, and I have to finish my inspection. The company helicopter will be here at noon, so there’s not much time for me to get to know her or for her to get to know me. So tonight is my only chance. And it doesn’t look like a good chance, either.

I start walking down the hallway to her room, not sure which one is hers. I didn’t see her going into her room, just a door closing.

“Kinsley?” I call out to her. But I’m met with silence. “Kinsley, I know you’re mad, but please just answer me. Kinsley? I know you can hear me.”

But why does her being mad at me bother me so much? I’ve never allowed others to make me feel inadequate or not good enough.

“Kinsley Butler, I’m not going to stop calling you until you open your door,” I say with an animated tone. “You know you want to.”

“What do you want?” she asks, and her head peers out of her door, only a few feet from where I am.

I grin happily and approach her. “I really just wanted to say that I’m sorry. What I said wasn’t right, and it was unprofessional. I don’t know you, and you don’t know me.”

“Yes, exactly.”

“It’s just one night, and we’re both adults, so we can tolerate each other until we leave, right?” I ask. I can see her pondering what I just said.

“Yeah, you’re right. I guess we can. Truce?” she asks and holds out her hand.

“Truce,” I nod and shake her hand. “At least for one night.”

She purses her lips and looks up at me. I hold on to her hand for longer than necessary, and as much as I need to let go, I can’t. The attraction is just too much.

“You can let go now.”

Reluctantly, I release my grasp on her hand and take a step back. “Are you going to be okay for the rest of your night?” I ask.

“I’ll be fine.”

“Are you sure?” I ask and look at her with a slight grin. “I could help keep you warm too.”

“I’ve got enough blankets, so that won’t be necessary,” she says with a bit of cringe. “But thanks for the offer.”

“If you change your mind, you know where to find me.”

“Like I could forget,” she scoffs.

I nod and turn on my heel. I stop before stepping away, willing to give it one more go. But somehow, I doubt it’ll break through her defenses. I look at her over my shoulder and say, “If you need anything-”

“I’m all set, thanks,” she says, cutting me off before I can even finish my sentence.

“Okay-”

“Unless you have coffee in your room. Then I’m there.”

Dammit. “I’m fresh out.”
