Good question. What did happen?

“I’m not sure… I think we both kissed each other somehow. She asked me if things would have been different if your grandfather had been more accepting of her, and I admitted it would be, and then… we kissed.”

“And then what happened?”

“And then we said goodbye and went home.”

“What?” Jian burst, “How can you just leave after something like that? Have you spoken to her since?”

I frowned, “No, we haven’t spoken. I don’t know what to say.”

“Well, do you like her?”

I put the knife down and turned to him. Grabbing the beer from him, I took a swig before answering.

“Yes.”

“So, what’s stopping you?”

What is stopping me? Am I afraid that it will ruin our friendship? But what if I let this opportunity pass me by? I’d regret it for the rest of my life. Am I willing to risk our friendship to try something new? That kiss felt so right.

“Nothing is stopping me. But not today. Today is about you and me. I haven’t seen you in months, after all.”

I continued finishing making lunch and chatting with Jian. I managed to swerve the conversation into his college work, and we spent the rest of the day catching up. It gave me some time to think.

Because the next day, I was going to tell Elina how I felt.
