He released my hands, his shoulders visibly relaxing. Despite it being a terrible idea, I was glad that I was giving him some peace after his loss.

“Thank you so much. I promise I’ll make it up to you.”

“How?” I asked.

He winked mischievously, “However you want. Think of this as an “I owe you.”

I narrowed my eyes, “Don’t think I’ll be forgetting about this. I’ll be coming to collect.”

He grinned, “Well, in the meantime, you can get cleaned up.”

Self-consciously I pawed at my greasy hair, “Why? When does she want me around for dinner?”

Standing up, Sam walked towards the back gate. Just before he left, he turned around and smiled sheepishly.

“Tonight.”
