Page 76 of Resisting the Alpha

Another thready breath escaped her, and I worried I had taken it too far. Pushed Iris too hard. She’d told me once she’d let me know if something was too much, but what if I had—

“I’d like it even better if you’d stop talking long enough to fuck me,” she whispered. I knew she meant it to be a tease, but Iris was smiling at me, her eyes glowing with a warmth that made my heart skip a beat. I gave her a wolf’s smile in return, curling my fingers into her shoulder instead as I found the pace that would make her gasp and groan; I wanted her to forget everything around her. I wanted her to forget where we were, who we were, and just live in the moment — the sensation.

It didn’t take long before Iris was a beautiful mess beneath me, whimpering and writhing as she tried to grind down against my cock. I crowed up against her as best I could, using my position as leverage to hold her as closely as I could to my body.

“Eli,” whined Iris, and I swear, my heart almost stopped right then, hearing my name fall from her lips like that. “Eli, please. I’m so close. I’m so, so close.”

“Shhh.” I leaned forward, nuzzling the side of her neck like the wolf I was. Like the wolves we both were. I raked my teeth over the skin there but very carefully did not bite, even when she lifted her chin in silent submission. I groaned and forced myself to kiss her lips instead. “Your job is to lie there and enjoy it. Was I not clear?”

Iris whimpered again, writhing against me. “Eli, alpha, please—”

A sharp thrill ran through me at the sound of that word.Alpha. As if I could do anything but what she asked me at that very moment.

“I’ll give you anything you want,” I murmured against her ear, angling our faces together to kiss her fiercely. I wouldn’t bite her, but I wanted her to feel it. To sense it. Toknowit. “I’ll bring down the moon for you if that’s what you want from me.”

Iris’ cry was muffled against my skin, her lashes fluttering before she squeezed her eyes shut. I shifted my position again, sliding an arm around the small of her back to press her as close as I could.

That was all it took. Iris came apart beneath me, her orgasm shuddering through us both as she shook and clenched down against me. Around me. It was a sweet velvet vice, and I moaned against her skin, the sensation almost making me frantic with its intensity.

“Good girl,” I panted, still rutting up into her. “Ancestors, Iris, you are so,sogood.”

The sound of my praise made her whimper, and she gave her thighs another squeeze. That was all it took for me as my climax built in jumps and leaps. I couldn’t have ignored it much longer if I wanted to. I closed my eyes and focused only on that place where Iris and I met, where two became one. Pressing my mouth into the skin of her neck, I moaned openly, my hips stuttering as I finally came.

Iris didn’t do anything after that, her limbs settling weakly against the bed. I pulled out a few moments later, and she lay there with her thighs spread, a light shimmer of sweat dusting her skin.

I couldn’t help but smile at the sight, even though I still had to untangle myself to get a washcloth from the bathroom and dispose of the condom. When I returned, Iris’ eyes were closed, though she hadn’t moved from the spread-eagle position, somehow managing to take up most of the king-sized bed.

“Don’t feel like working anymore, do you?” I teased, gently cleaning up the mess.

“Shhh,” Iris mumbled, even though I saw the corner of her mouth tick upwards. “Sleeping.”

I chuckled softly, tossing the washcloth on the floor to slip into the bed beside her, finally pulling the sheets up around us. I rolled Iris gently onto her side, and as soon as I got an arm around her middle, she wiggled back against me, sighing contentedly.

“So, I can stay then?” I murmured, kissing the back of her neck gently.

“Yeah,” Iris whispered, soft and sweet. “You can stay.”

Sleep didn’t hold me for long. I wished it would. It couldn’t have been more than a half-hour before I awoke with a start, holding myself still as I tried to gauge whether Eli was still awake. After a few moments of listening to the steady rhythm of inhales and exhales, I decided he had fallen asleep, but…

Shit.

I was anything but.

My heart raced in my chest as I replayed what had just happened. My mouth felt dry; my throat was tight. It was hard to swallow. I had told myself I wasn’t going to get involved with Eli Archer, so why the heck did I decide to fall into bed with him?

I never got involved with anyone when I worked on a case. It was much harder to leave a city if I made a friend, much less a… a… Whatever this was.

How did this happen?

Fuck.
