“Better get rid of this,” he said with a grin. Before I could ask what he meant, he’d hooked his thumbs into the hem of his shirt and yanked it up over his head.
Holy terra...
A rippling green expanse of muscle met my gaze as Archie let his shirt drop to the floor.
Heat flooded my cheeks as I averted my gaze.
“Don’t you think it’s better to get paint on your clothing rather than your skin?” I asked, staring into the blue tray of paint before me.
“Certainly not,” Archie scoffed. “That shirt is imported Hadorian cotton, one of my favourites. I’d much rather get paint on myself. I’m nowhere near as precious.”
“You had no shirt last night, either. Is this your usual look, then?” I asked, turning to look at him once more and keeping my eyes firmly glued to his face.
“I am often bared to the winds, yes. Sometimes shirts are more a bother than they’re worth. Besides, I may not look it, but I’m verysensitive.”
Sensitive?
I clamped my teeth down on the insides of my cheeks to keep from bursting out laughing. My eyes involuntarily dipped down to his two nipples, a darker shade of green than the rest of his chest.
“Well, alright then!” I squeaked, still trying to hold in my laughter. “Just don’t count on me to clean you off, Mr. Sensitive!”
I snatched my tray and hurried off to my wall. Archie’s chuckle followed me, along with three softly-murmured words I barely heard:
“Ah. Too bad.”
CHAPTER SEVEN
Maggie
“Are they...?”
“Racing?” I replied to Sophie’s question. “Yup. At least, one of them is.”
Not long after we’d started painting, Sophie had shown up with food and coffee fromHallowed. Starving, I’d gratefully stopped to snag a snack from her. After nuzzling his snout against Sophie’s neck and breathing in deeply, X had straightened and waved the food away. When Archie saw that, he also said no to the food. They’d both returned to their stations, continuing to paint, and Sophie and I had apparently noticed the same thing at the same time.
Archie was trying to fucking race X to the end of his wall.
