“No! I mean, yes! Yes, I’ll marry you, and no, there’s no problem with the ring because it’s absolutely perfect!”

Thank the moons.

“And what about the man?” I couldn’t help but ask, a relieved grin spreading over my face.

She laughed, shaking her head once more.

“Well, I guess he’s pretty perfect, too. Andsohumble.”

I stood, taking her hand in mine and sliding the gold band onto the ring finger of her left hand.

“How could I possibly be humble when the most glorious woman on this station has just agreed to be my wife? If there were ever a good cause for excessive pride in a male, it’s this one.”

Maggie didn’t seem to care for my witty comments in that moment. She was too busy staring at her hand, her eyes shining.

“I’m glad you like it,” I said softly.

“I love it, Archie.”

“Not as much as I love you.”

“Hey, wait,” she said suddenly. “This is a human way to mark an engagement. What do orcs do?”

“Usually, a male offers up his ear to his women’s tusk. She pierces it, then places a ring in the hole.”

Maggie bit her lip thoughtfully, turning and casting her gaze over the kitchen.

“Well, I don’t have a tusk, but...”

She trotted away and opened a door, brandishing a shiny metal object.

“How about a meat thermometer? It’s really sharp.”

Pride and love filled my chest. She wanted to claim me, to mark me, as I had her. She wanted to partake in my people’s customs.

I joined her and once again knelt so that my ear was easier to reach.

“I’m ready,” I said, my heart pounding, my face split with a wide smile.

“Which ear should I do?” she asked, her eyes darting back and forth across my face.

“Right ear for now. Left happens at the mating ceremony.”

“You mean the wedding?”

“Precisely.”

She nodded, her lovely face turning hard with concentration. I could practically feel her focus on my ear as she stared. Then, she grasped my ear firmly, and with a confidence and competence that made my cock thicken in my trousers, she plunged the meat thermometer through the upper cartilage of my ear.

A shock of pain throbbed through me, and I hissed.

“There,” she said, satisfied. “Oh! Wait! But I don’t have a ring... Here.” She drew the thermometer out and placed it on the floor. Then she unhooked a small gold hoop from her own earlobe. She stepped over to the disinfection cube and placed the gold hoop inside. The cube was meant for dishes and the like, it worked well in a pinch for this purpose.

As the blue light shone inside the cube, disinfecting the earring, she washed her hands. She returned for the hoop when that was done, and bent down to my ear once more. I breathed in deeply to keep from flinching when she slid the hoop into the newly-created hole.

“That looks good,” she said.

“Mmm. Yes, it does,” I said appreciatively, realizing I had a perfect view of her perfect breasts from the way her shirt gaped as she bent over.

She laughed, rolling her eyes before pressing her mouth to mine in a soft, warm kiss.

“Merry Christmas, fiancé,” she whispered against my lips. My ear twitched.

So did my cock.

“Merry Christmas,mate,” I replied.
