Fuck this. I’ll take some moreTeskand crash. Maybe rub one off, while I’m at it, conjure up a fantasy with her as the protagonist. It’s been happening way too often already.

But the magic only burns stronger in my blood, and I don’t see a way out.

What if this doesn’t work—what if her magic isn’t strong enough to help us? What the hell am I going to do?

“Ash!”I yell. “Open the door!”

“Go away,” he says, his voice muffled. “I’m busy.”

“Fuck you and your business. We have to talk.”

“Not tonight, we don’t.”

“Ashton. Come on.Kraish.” I slide down to the floor, my cheek pressed to his door. “Open up. Asshole.”

“I said go away.”

My mouth twitches. “Ha. You wish.”

“Are you high?”

“Not anymore,” I mutter, “sadly.”

The door opens so suddenly I topple into his room and just lie there, gazing up at him.Mm. He has nice eyes. And mouth. And lips. “You should smile more,” I inform him.

Those gray eyes narrow. “I thought you said you’re not high anymore?”

“Almostnot high anymore.”

“What do you want?” he mutters. “I’m trying to find out any relevant information on what is happening to us. We didn’t have a surge tonight.”

“Thank all the demons in hell for that,” I say fervently.

“So what are you doing on my floor?”

“I fell.”

“Sin…” He sighs and heads back to his desk. “Why don’t you do something useful for a change, like ask your fae elders to see if you find out anything? These books are useless.” He shoves a pile of books aside, grabs another book. “So useless…”

“I’ll ask. Just…” I push myself to my knees. “Just listen, Ash. There’s something I have to tell you, tell someone, before it’s too late. I—”

He turns back around, frowning. “You’re panicking. Why?”

“Why? Are you serious?” I haul myself to my feet. “Have you seen me when the surges hit me? Have you seen my back?”

“I saw it yesterday. You’re growing wings.”

“Arawn, yes!” I lift my hands. “Wings!”

“What’s your family crest again?”

“Griffin.”

“There you go,” he says. “Griffins have wings. Your body is trying to shift. It is worrisome, agreed, but we probably still have time until the next surge to think about-”

I shake my head. “You don’t understand.”

“You’re right, I don’t. What is it?”
