It’s funny, though. Zoey achieved the opposite of what she set out to do. By hunting me down, she shoved me right into the arms of the boys I want to take revenge on.

The game is now on, whether I like it or not.

“How are the others?” I ask as he walks me toward the dormitories.

“They’re okay. Ashton is reading through books, looking for more information on this Golden Moon shit. Jason and Sindri are sleeping.”

“Still?”

“They play it tough,” he says as we turn toward the boys’ dormitories. “But they were hit pretty hard. Jason, obviously, with the shift, but that damn fae was passed out all day, too. He won’t admit to any weakness, but I wouldn’t expect any less from someone who grew up in the fae courts. Cruel beings, the fae.”

“Said by a demon?”

“Never said that the hellish courts are any better.”

“You confuse me, Rys,” I admit.

“Why, thank you.” He stops and sketches a brief, comical bow.

“Don’t pull a Sindri on me now.”

“I had to try.” He chuckles, the ring in his nose twinkling.

“Look,” I say. “I’m going to my room to leave some stuff, and then go to the library. You don’t have to come.”

“I’m your guardian on duty today.”

“Oh, for…” I swallow a sigh. I’d be stupid to bitch and moan about this, I know. But… “What will you do, wait outside my room?”

“You could invite me in.”

“Come on, then.”

He’s quiet for a few minutes as we make our way to the girls’ dormitories, but it doesn’t last. He’s like a dog with a bone.

“Why did you leave class, Mia?”

“Because.” I climb the stairs as quickly as I can but he’s always beside me, effortlessly keeping up. “A flower grew in my notebook.”

“I’m sorry, what?”

“A flower,” I grind out. “A daffodil. It grew out of my notebook.”

“So your magic is leaking. No big deal. Could be the influence of the moon. But better not let the teachers see—”

“It’s not my magic!” I catch myself before I blurt out more. “Besides… the teacher saw it.”

“Oh, fuck.” He stops, then follows after me as I unlock my door and step into my room. “Wait a sec. What do you mean, it’s not your magic?”

“Never mind.” I drop my backpack on my bed, then sit down beside it and scrub my hands over my face. “I’m tired.”

“We didn’t let you sleep last night?” he asks smugly.

I look up sharply. “Nothing happened last night.”

“You mean, apart from wolf-boy making you come with his tiny cock?”

“Dammit. Just how closely were you watching?” A scorching blush descends over my face.
