“Rest,” I whisper. “We’re here. Just rest. I’m sorry we didn’t get here earlier, but I’m not going anywhere now.”

“Who?” He tries to see over his shoulder and hisses, his face contorting with pain. “Dammit, get off me—”

“It’s just me,” Ashton says. “Relax.”

“Dammit, vampire. Get out of my bed.”

“Sin.” I touch his face. “Ash saved your life. Be nice.”

“This is me being nice. I can’t…” Sindri squirms, gasps. “Need… space.”

“Whoa, okay.” Ashton sits up, shoves a hand through his dark locks. “Don’t get your lacy panties in a twist, fae.”

“Why can’t you two just be nice to each other?” I all but wail. “Sin, come on.”

He’s not looking at me but he’s panting, his face white. “It’s… too much, kraish… Sometimes when I wake up, the touch…”

“What are you saying?” I glance at Ashton. “What is he saying?”

“Bad memories, would be my guess,” he says quietly. “I understand.”

Sindri closes his eyes tightly, mouth tightening. He looks like he’s grinding his teeth together.

“Should I go, too?” I whisper. “Sin? Want me to leave?”

He doesn’t reply but he grabs my hand, presses it to his chest, where his heart is pounding.

In time, the pounding slows and his eyes fall shut again. Ashton spooked him for some reason, but he feels at ease with me.

God…What happened to him? I’m dying of curiosity and yet I’m not sure I want to know. It will break me to pieces.

“I’ll stay with him,” I say.

Ashton is gathering his dirty clothes, pulling them back on, his face unreadable. “You sure?”

“Yeah. Ash, will you do me a favor?”

He straightens. “Anything.”

I smile at him. “Would you check on Jason, please? I can’t take any more worry, and after finding Sindri like this… I’d go myself, but he doesn’t want to see me, and well…” I glance at my hand, held tightly in Sindri’s. “I can’t right now. I can’t leave Sin.”

Ashton’s gray eyes darken. “Jason doesn’t want to see me, either.”

“Please, Ash. Just go see if he’s okay.”

He sighs. “Isn’t Jason in bed? It’s getting kind of late.”

“Perhaps. Who knows?” I snort. “Speaking of stubborn asshats…”

“Don’t tell me he was in class today?”

“In class? He was intrainingand he can barely stand up straight. Just… check on him, will you? Maybe he’ll let you. He all but told me he can’t let me touch him because he’s with Ophelia.”

“What a fucking idiot.”

I shrug. “I don’t know. Either he really is in love with her or the spell she weaved is stronger than we think.”

“I’ll beat the truth out of him,” Ashton growls. “If he’s in love with that bitch—”
