I cluck my tongue. “It’s what happens when you spend a day on the floor of your shower.”
“Yeah, that hadn’t been part of my plan. I missed the Art class. You’ll have to come pose for me.”
“Sin…”
“It’s what any good classmate would do.”
“Is it?”
“No,” he admits, lips curling in a rueful smirk. “It’s not. You’re the only one I’ve ever asked.”
Warmth spreads through my chest. When he tugs on my arm, I move closer to him, sigh when his other arm comes around me. “Better?”
He is silent for a beat. “Maybe if you took off your underwear…”
“Sin!”
“What? I’m naked. And I’ve seen you naked. Touched you. Been inside of you.”
“Stop thinking naughty thoughts. You need to rest and recover. You’re wounded and you were unconscious for a long time.” Probably why I didn’t sense his distress, and it bothers me. Maybe I did feel it and dismissed it. Can’t afford to do that again.
“I’m a fae. We’re tough like nails.”
“I have no doubt.”
“Do I detect a hint of sarcasm?”
“No. No, I…” I close my eyes. “I was worried about you, is all.”
His lips whisper over mine, the kiss light like a cloud. He shivers against me and I don’t know if it’s the cold he’s feeling or something else.
Nothing else happens, though. No grabby hands. He breathes out, pressing his forehead to mine, eyes closing.
“Are you okay?” I ask.
“Tired.”
“No wonder. I can go away, let you sleep—”
“No.Please.” Another shiver racks him. “I don’t sleep much.”
“You should.” I press a kiss to his jaw. “Will you tell me why you didn’t want Ash touching you?”
His mouth tightens. “He said it. Bad memories.”
“Who hurt you? Tell me.”
“And what will you do,Almaya? Go punch them in the face?”
“I might.” I shrug. “Why not?”
He’s shaking. Concerned, I lean back to see his face, open my mouth to ask if he’s okay, when I realize he’s laughing.
With a huff, I lay my head on his chest, smirking. “You don’t think I’d do it?”
“I bet you would.”
The silence stretches and my lids start to feel heavy. “You got hurt last night. Why didn’t you say anything?”
