“No. Not even Ophelia. But she may have noticed it was missing, and after finding me here she put two and two together. If she took it… God. I mean, it belongs to her, but I’d hoped there was something in there that would enlighten us.”

“We can steal it back,” Ashton says.

And that reminds me…“Brianna told me something today. She said that she saw Ophelia wearing Emrys’s earring with the blue gem.”

“What?” Red spots appear on Ashton’s cheekbones. His brows draw together. “He’d never let anyone else wear it. He once said that it’s an heirloom of his clan.”

I swallow hard. “I wondered if she managed to steal items from you, too, if she’s using them to reinforce her enchantment.”

Now they’re both frowning.

“I don’t think she got a chance to get that close to me,” Ashton says.

“I…” Sindri is fingering the hoops on his ears. “Not sure. Truth is… she got very near me the other day at the party.”

“Maybe she didn’t get a chance,” I whisper.

“Maybe. I…” He hisses, his cheeks paling. “Queen Maab. Mykereyn.”

My heart thuds. “What’s that?”

“My coming-of-age jewel.Fuck. It’s always placed at the tip of the right ear.” His brows gather over his glittering eyes. “It’s gone. How did she do it? How didn’t I notice?”

Cold spreads through me. “It’s true, then.”

“She’s not only stealing personal items,” Ashton reasons, “but items of emotional importance. And she doesn’t even care if others notice she’s wearing them on her person.”

“We wouldn’t have known if not for your network of nosy girls.” Sindri is still fingering his ear. “Kraish bedash.”

“That almost sounded like Common Demonic,” Ashton mutters.

“They aren’t nosy,” I object. Then I grin. “Guess I have a network, too, even if it’s not magical.”

“Small victories?” Sindri suggests with a crooked smile, though his eyes are dark with anger.

“Just laughing in the face of disaster,” I say.

“That’s a good power to have. Almost magical.”

I nod. “We have to ask Jason if she took anything from him. Guys, we have to get those two away from her.”

“What do you recommend?” Ashton asks. “Kidnap them and lock them up in a room with us?”

“And then distract them properly.” Sindri runs his tongue over his lips, eyes darkening. “As Ash suggested. What say you, Mia? Would you be up for that?”

I pat my burning cheeks. “Uh. Sounds great.”

Sindri chuckles, low and sexy. “Doesn’t it just?”

“But I’m not sure it would solve the problem,” I say. “We pulled Emrys and Jason away from her once already. They keep going back.”

“Because she has a hook in them. And it’s not just the items she stole.”

“No, she has a hook in their magic,” I say. “An emotional weakness, she said. She knows stuff about you, guys, more than I do. So she knows how to get to you. You need to tell me what she knows.”

“And then what?” Sindri bows his head. “How would that help?”

Ashton says nothing at all.
