“Forgiveness,” he says quietly. “Or not exactly forgiveness. But letting go of the anger, the need for revenge. You know?”

I nod. “Are you sure?”

“It’s not easy.” He swallows, the knot in his throat working. “But I can’t kill Ashton’s father and elders, no matter what they did to me.”

“That is wise,” I say though I’m not sure I’m the right person for this topic. “Since we’re trying to make peace and all. Jax…”

“Keep it,” he says.

“I don’t do returns,” I mutter.

“What?”

I glance up to grin at him. “I might make an exception for you, though.”

He chuckles. “Fucker. On what terms?”

“Come here.”

He comes willingly, and I put the stake and the drawing aside to pull him down for a kiss. He tastes of wild expanses and grasslands and freedom. Afterward, I press our foreheads together.

“What is it, Sin?”

“You did well to bring me back the stake,” I say evenly. “Though I decided to stop trading.”

“Will you focus on lessons and on being a responsible boyfriend to all of us?”

“That’s the plan. Would it be so bad?”

“No.” He shakes his head, cheekbones coloring. “No, I think it’s what I need to do, too, only I have trouble with the classes.”

“Then I’ll help you. We all will, Jax. This is what being a family means.”

His lashes are long and feathery, hiding his eyes. He pulls back a little and then I see that he’s smiling. “That would be great. All the talk of the future and babies… it made me realize I’ve never had a real family.”

“Join the club,” Emrys says, coming out of the bathroom where he was showering with Ashton, naked and dripping water. “This is new for all of us.”

“New but perfect,” Ashton says, following him, just as naked but rubbing his hair with a towel. We all turn to look at Mia who stirs a little at our voices and rolls on her back, head falling to the side, hands open at her sides.

Without a second thought, we all move toward her. She is the one we love, the one who brought us together, the one we want to protect and keep, the one who cracked our hardened shells and let us feel again.

We sit around her, stroking her legs, her arms, her hair. She sighs in her sleep and smiles.

A new beginning. Maybe we won’t forgive what was done to us but like Jason said, maybe we can let go of the anger and find peace.

It will take time, that’s for sure.

I hope it takes forever if it means I can be with them like I am now.
