“See? And sure, if you managed to resist that’s pretty impressive, but maybe your magic draws on the enchantment, maybe it’s rubbing off on you.”

“Really? That happens?” I shiver.

“I’ll be frank with you. Much of what is happening here is new territory. I was never taught about anything like this happening. But I wasn’t told there could be two Queens, either.”

We walk together to the bleachers, climb up and sit. It’s not exactly a companionable silence but it’s not hostile, either.

As the game begins, I narrow my eyes at the spot where Ophelia is sitting with Zoey and the Wicked Girls.

“I have been trying to reach the boys’ magic,” I whisper. “A wall encloses it now, placed there by the enchantment, stopping me from sensing where they are. I mean, last night, I followed Zoey because I had a gut feeling she was up to something, but I didn’t feel their pain.” I swallow hard. “But Ophelia is my cousin. My flesh and blood. My magic.”

“What are you thinking?”

“I can’t reach the boys’ power, but what if I tried to reach hers?”
