“Jane Austen’s ghost,” I breathe, taking in the view.

I pull my phone from my pocket and snap a picture, not nearly capturing the beauty of the sun’s rays sparkling over the crashing waves. Opening my group chat with Sondra, Keith, and Dottie, I type out a message, attaching the photo.

Me: This place is orgasmic.

A door closes down the hallway just off the living room. Assuming that’s where the bedrooms are, I head that way, hoping to find my suitcase and duffle bag. Peeking in the first door I come across, I find a bathroom. Again, it’s bigger than my apartment in Port Blue. I continue down the hallway, pushing open the second door.

It’s a decent-sized bedroom, the king bed taking up most of it. Everything is white. Even the cold marble floor. The only color in the room comes from the teal accent pillows and the view from the floor-to-ceiling window, that’s about as wide as my body with my arms stretched wide. There’s a small accent chair, and a regular-size closet where I find my bags. This must be my room.

My phone vibrates in my pocket, so I pull it out and laugh, seeing a notification for nine unread messages.

Keith: If my room doesn’t have a view of at least sand, I’m moving in with you two.

Dottie: Oh, you didn’t hear? Sondra is staying with Preston in the wake of his grandmother’s passing. No pun intended. Winter is staying with Aleck Fox, Preston’s hunky best man.

Keith: Sondra, I’m going to need confirmation…

Sondra: It’s true. Preston’s gran kicked the proverbial bucket. Winter and Aleck will take care of last-minute wedding plans until Preston and I arrive.

Dottie: Does anyone know anything about this guy? Aside from the fact that Mr. Fox is a fox?

Sondra: Not a thing. I met him once. He seemed… nice.

Dottie: Nice?

Keith: Nice??

Keith: Uh-oh.

Deciding to meet my new roommate, I head down the hall to the last door. I push it open slowly, my eyes stretching wide when I see the space on the other side of the door that separates royalty from the peasants.

This room is gigantic. Its panoramic window explodes light into the room like the heavens are showcasing their most sought-after pied-à-terre.

Aside from the large bed, there’s a small office space in the corner, a sitting area with a couch, an accent chair, a side-table, and a flat screen television mounted to the wall opposite the bed. Which is currently displaying a crackling fire.

How charming.

Is that anen suite?! Now my sensible room looks more like a shack compared to these digs.

Did this asshole seriously take the biggest room with an en suite, knowinghis invitation was given purely out of convenience?! Not to mention, from what Miss Front Desk had to say, my much, muchsmaller room would be more fit to house his tiny frame.

I round the corner of the en suite in search of this prick, only to barrel into a body rounding the corner at the same time.

“Fuck!” he spits, stumbling back.

“Oh, shit! I’m sorry!” I hold my arms out, hands splayed in front of me.

“No, it’s okay. It’s okay. You startled me,” he says, smoothing out his sandy blonde hair.

“Are you Aleck? I’m Winter, Sondra’s friend. Well, maid of honor. I just got here. I wanted to say hello. I guess I should have announced myself first.”

The handsome jockey takes a deep breath and shakes his head with a smile.

“I’m Trent, Mr. Fox’s assistant. I’m getting his things set before he arrives. He’ll be in a bit later.”

“You’re kidding.” I snort. “He had hispersonal assistantput away his underwear so he didn’t have to do it himself?” I roll my eyes.

Trent chuckles, his smirk dripping with amusement. He’s handsome. Miss Front Desk is right, he’s tiny, buthandsome.
