“Let me...” she began, but he was done waiting. He ripped the small piece from her body, his fingers finally finding her heat.

With a cry, her body arching up, he watched her reaching the first peak. As she slowly opened her eyes, he pulled her closer. “Again.”

––––––––

She’d reached and crestedthat pinnacle so many times, but Gavin wouldn’t let her catch her breath. His hands were all over her, taking her to heights she’d never experienced before.

Outside, the sun had set, people were going about their evening rituals, unwinding after a long day. A car honked. In the distance, a child laughed. But she was only vaguely aware of life outside the cocoon she and Gavin were in.

Their bodies were slick from the heat. Desire was a living, breathing creature, egging her on to give him as much pleasure as she possibly could. Throwing her leg over him, she pushed him back against the pillows. “My turn.” And with her gaze on his, her mouth trailed a path over his hot flesh. But just as she reached her goal, he lifted himself and flipped her over so that she was again lying beneath him.

Panting, he grabbed something from his pants. Protection. She hadn’t even thought about that. Gulping, she tried to get much-needed oxygen into her lungs before she helped him, reveling in the feel of his throbbing desire in her hand.

With a laugh, he moved her hand aside and lifted himself above her. “I want to be inside you.”

––––––––

He wanted to watchher crest one more time, but the moment her silky heat closed around him, he knew he wasn’t going to last much longer. He began to move. She grabbed onto his shoulders, and together they quickly found their rhythm. They stayed in sync, every step of the way, as if they’d been doing this for a long time.

He tried to keep his eyes on her, but a red haze of desire shifted in front of him, making it impossible to focus. His head fell backward, and with her name a mantra on his lips, this time he reached the pinnacle with her.

––––––––

Brooke slowly openedher eyes. The sun was up, birds were singing. Slowly she turned her head. She was alone in her bed. Of course, she was alone. Why would Gavin stay?

Lifting the sheet, she peeked at herself. Groaning, she quickly pulled it back up. She was buck naked. And she’d spent a whole night like that with Gavin.

Images of their entwined bodies flashed before her eyes. Groaning out loud, she dropped her face in her hands. If she lived to be a hundred, she’d never forget last night. Making love with Gavin was extraordinary. It had been their first time together, but he’d known exactly what she’d wanted, as if they’d been together numerous times before.

Connor. Her mother. Quickly she sat up and grabbed her phone, clutching the sheet against her body.

Her mother answered immediately. “Brooke! So lovely to hear from you. Did you get your paintings back?”

“Yes, thanks, Mom. I...I’ve slept in. I’ll come fetch Connor as soon as I’m dressed.”

“Why don’t you let him stay a bit longer? He’s outside with Logan. The dogs are following him around, like they do when’s he’s here. Come this afternoon, and we’ll all have dinner together.”

“Uhm...okay, thanks, Mom. I’ll see you later.” She put the phone down and let her eyes close, let her head fill with indulgent images from the night before.

“Everything okay?”

Startled, she turned toward the door. Gavin was entering the room, tray in hand, no shirt. The top button of his jeans was left open. Her mouth literally watered as he slowly approached the bed.

“I...I thought you’d left,” she stammered.

Grinning, he put the tray down and settled down next to her on the mattress. “Not while there is a beautiful woman lying naked in the bed.”

Oh, so he was making jokes while she was all hot and bothered? She dropped the sheet. His smile disappeared, and he inhaled sharply.

“Babe...” Two big hands covered her breasts. “These...are the holy grail,” he whispered as he lowered his head.

Her eyes closed. And she knew. She loved this man with an intensity that left her reeling. A sharp sword went straight through her heart.

Temporary. It’s temporary. And it wasn’t real. A fake relationship. Although there was nothing fake about what this man made her feel.

Slipping her arms around his shoulders, she held on tightly. When they left the house in a few hours, everything that had happened between them would stay behind, right here.

After next week, Gavin would be gone, and she’d have to carry on with her and Connor’s lives without his cooking, without his help, and especially without his lovemaking.
