CHAPTER 16

Brooke slowly openedher eyes. It had to be Saturday morning already because the sun was up. She still wasn’t quite awake, but a deep joy filled her to the brim. Gavin cradled her against his chest. She was happy, blissfully so, her hand contentedly spread out over a warm, sexy body.

Something moved against her leg. Smiling lazily, she looked up to him while her hand disappeared under the sheet. Her eyes widened. “Again?”

Folding his arms around her, he pulled her up so that their mouths were nearly touching. “I always want you, babe. Always.” His mouth captured hers in a searing kiss.

Her heart sighed. She loved this man, there was no denying it. After long minutes, she lifted her head. “I have a confession to make.”

“Yeah?” He combed back her hair, his fingers lingering against her face. “So have I.”

“You wanna go first?”

“Sure. My confession is simple: I don’t want a fake relationship with you.”

She froze and pulled away quickly. “O-kay?”

Grinning, he lifted himself on his elbow. “I want a real relationship this time.” Bending down, his lips teased hers. “I never want to be without you again. What did you want to confess?”

But he kissed her then.

“My toes are curling,” she whispered, before a strong wind picked her up and she soared again, losing all ability to speak or think.

––––––––

In the end it was nearlytime for dinner before they arrived at Logan’s place. Charlie had left Gavin a message earlier, urging him to persuade Brooke to also move to Logan’s place and to tell him she was preparing lunch.

They’d meant to be on time, but he couldn’t get enough of her. It was nearly six before they’d finished packing her things. While she settled the bill, he’d called an Uber. He’d, of course, offered to pay for her stay at the Airbnb, but with one lift of her chin, he got the message—there was no way she was going to allow him to do that.

Gavin had Brooke’s hand in his as they walked toward the front door of Logan’s apartment. Being with Brooke made sense; nothing had ever felt so right.

As he opened the door, he remembered. “I still don’t know what you wanted to confess. We’ve been so...busy, all day...” He couldn’t stop the grin.

Smiling, she snuggled against him. “And every time I tried to talk, you kissed me!”

He bent down. “I like kissing you.” As always, being this close to her, his lips wanted hers again.

The front door flew open. “They’re kissing again!” Connor groaned over his shoulder to the rest of the party behind him.

Brooke laughed and crouched down in front of him. “I’ve missed you. Are you okay?”

Connor threw his arms around his mom’s neck. “I’ve missed you, too. There’s lots of food.”
