Over Brooke’s head, Gavin met his future mother-in-law’s eyes. She was openly crying.

“Oh, I’m so happy to hear that,” she sniffed, hugging them both. “When?”

“When what?” Gavin asked.

“When are you getting married?”

“As far as I’m concerned, tomorrow.” Gavin smiled.

Brooke looked up at him. “Okay.”

His smile slipped. “Okay?”

Brooke’s eyes narrowed. “Are you backing out?”

He stared into her eyes for long moments, and there in the depths, he could see she really meant it. She was going to marry him. Tomorrow.

“Tomorrow it is.” He kissed her.

Connor groaned. “Ew, I suppose that’s going to happen all the time now?”

Gavin grinned against Brooke’s mouth. “Oh, yes.”

“You are crazy!” Lindsay laughed. “You can’t marry tomorrow. Okay, I know that’s exactly what—”

“—You and Blake did,” Eleanor finished her sentence.

“What about a dress?” Charlie asked. “We could drive to Bozeman quickly, and—”

Eleanor lifted her hand, smiling. “I’ve actually bought you a dress.”

“Mom!” Brooke gasped. “I remember you’d said you’ve seen a dress, but I didn’t know you’d actually bought it. At the time, Gavin and I were still in a fake relationship!”

Eleanor hugged her. “Everyone else could see it was the real thing. You two just had to figure out the details. You’ll love the dress, I promise.”

Brooke laughed. “I’m sure I will. So now you’re done interfering in everyone else’s life, I think it’s time we find you a husband.”

“Yes!” Lindsay cried.

“Fabulous idea,” said Charlie. “You have someone in mind, Brooke?”

“I do. And I’ll make sure he’s your date tomorrow, Mom.”

Eleanor looked really worried. She put a hand on Brooke’s arm. “Brooke, sweetheart, now don’t be silly, I’m old and—”

Brooke interrupted her. “—Fabulous, and clearly not busy enough.”

“I don’t have any intention of interfering in anyone else’s life, although I was wondering about Jared and Stacy.”

“Who’s Jared and Stacey?” Gavin asked.

“Jared is Blake’s friend. He’s also involved in the dojo, and Stacey is another ex-South African who has recently relocated to Alisson.”

“They’ll be perfect for each other.” Eleanor’s eyes twinkled.

Brooke rolled her eyes. “Mom, seriously.” She grabbed her mom’s hand. “Come on, we have a wedding to plan.”

As they walked away, Brooke glanced over her shoulder at him and winked. His heart just about jumped out of his chest.
