She nods. “That’s right, I forgot, shit, damn pregnancy fog.” She mutters. I beam, excited.

“You’re pregnant?”

She gives me a huge grin. “Yeah, took years, but Vinny convinced me we should have another, and here we are. Between Moira and Eden, we already have a hockey team, now with Tori and I, we’re adding to that, we’ll have three.” She bursts out laughing. “God damn baby making factory.”

Now I’m on my way home, not sure why I couldn’t finish out the weekend, but Angel said the threat was over, and I was to get back to my man. I smiled when he said that, I swear he lives to play matchmaker. I can’t wait until his girls get boyfriends, I bet you anything his tune will change.

I pull into the driveway and see that Drew is waiting for me on the front steps. Angel must have called and told him I was on my way back. Before I can even throw the car into park, he’s stomping down the steps and comes to my door. “Turn it off, Tara,” he demands.

I quickly do that, and before I can reach around to unbuckle my seatbelt my door is yanked open and he closes in on me, unbuckling me himself and pulls me from the car.

“Fucking hate that you ran away from me. I should be pissed, but it was actually the safest option considering what was going down, but still, hate it,” he mutters as we get inside the house and he slams the door shut, backing me into it.

“I’m sorry,” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “No, I’m sorry, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before, I’m sorry that I hurt you.”

“Drew, stop, I get it. You didn’t want to hurt me but he’s also your best friend. I can see why your loyalty was torn.”

“We’re moving past this. Keller will be home in a few months, until then we won’t speak of him. We’ll enjoy this for a while longer, before shit hits the fan. But, baby, I can promise you, from here on out, it’s you and me. I love you, so god damned much.”

Tears fill my eyes as he says those words. “I love you too.” God do I ever. “I’ve never had love, not in my life. The Angels showed me love, but I still never felt that. But with you, it fills me, makes me whole. And no matter what happens with Keller, I will never let you go.”

He smiles. “Babe, I think that’s my line.”

I laugh and shake my head at him.

“Have you eaten?” he asks.

“I had supper, if that’s what your asking but it’s been four hours, I’m hungry.”

“Good. Let’s go out for something to eat, so I can come home and fuck you.” My breath hitches.

“Or, we can fuck now, go eat, and fuck later.” I practically beg him as I feel my panties becoming wet.

“Tara, as much as I want that, I’ve barely eaten all day, worried about you, I’m starving. I wouldn’t have the energy to fuck you like I want to.”

I lean in close, biting my bottom lip. And whisper, “I can do all the work.” His eyes burn with hunger.

“Then you got yourself a deal,” he growls before his lips slam down on mine and all thoughts of Keller and his baby mama disappear.

Chapter 26

Drew

Two months later

The transition to becoming the new police Captain was easy. I thought it’d be harder, or at least somewhat of a battle, but it wasn’t. I walked into the station the day after Angel dealt with the old Captain’s bullshit and was called in for a meeting. Twenty minutes later all the paperwork was signed making it official.

First thing I did was rearrange Tara’s schedule. No more night shifts, unless she gets a call. So our shifts match. Was I playing favorites? Fuck yes I was. I wanted to make sure Tara and I were together at work, and off at the same time. And I don’t give a shit if I get called out about it either.

The worst part about this new position though, is the fact that I now have an office with blinds that I can close, so the temptation of fucking Tara at work is a constant battle. I also had to assign Tara to work with a partner, since before she would come with me. She’s more than proven herself that she’s capable of doing her job and does it well, so I had Officer Moore brought in as sort of an intern, to work with her.

He’s not exactly the brightest, and he’s new to being a cop, but he did pretty good at his first crime scene, so I figured I’d give him a chance.

A knock on my door has me snapping my head up from the computer screen. “Drew? You weren’t answering your phone; you have a call on line one.” My secretary, James informs me.

“Thanks.” I tell him and grab the phone. “Knight here.”
