“Hangman, son, I’m sorry about what happened, your guy Gunner just explained it to me. I had no idea there would be a raid today, I didn’t approve of anything. He must have gone over my head, but I’ll look into it.”

“That’s all I can ask; except I also want his damn badge.”

“Trust me, you’ll have it, I’ll take care of him the second I get into the office today.” He hangs up and I toss the phone back to Gunner.

“It’ll be taken care of. Chief thinks it came from higher up, like the mayor, I’m assuming. But it’s still Chief’s department, so he’ll fire him today.”

I pull out my cell and text Melissa, asking if we can do dinner another night. After this mess of a morning, the boys need a party, and I’m joining in.

Chapter Twenty-eight

Justine

Hangman texted me thathe’s busy tonight, so it’s just me, myself, and I as usual lately. I seriously need to make some more friends. I look at the clock and see that it’s only six in the evening. How boring is this. I’m not sitting at home tonight, screw it. I’m going to a club, dancing and see about making some new friends.

I head to my room and find the perfect dress, blood-red with just a hint of sparkle. This dress showcases my tattoos in the best of ways. Except the ones that are covered, obviously. Styling my hair, I take in my appearance. I was going to go for make-up, but dancing makes me sweat, and I’d rather not look like a drowned rat.

Grabbing my purse, I head out to my car and hop in. After a quick google search, I locate a club that sounds right up my alley. I steer clear of the bar I was at just a few weeks ago, since it seems to be where Hangman and his boys hang out. I want to avoid that mess again. Hangman and I never talked about being exclusive; I’m not stupid, he’s totally fucking club girls still.

And I’m not even mad about it, I should be, but I’m not. Unless we have a serious discussion, we’re both free to do what we please.

I head in the direction of the club and find shitty parking about two blocks away. This city needs better parking access. But then again, I could have easily called a cab or something. I get out, adjusting my dress and strut my ass to the club. I’m let in almost instantly, avoiding the line. I’ve still got it; I give myself an inner high five and a whoop and go straight to the bar.

Ordering a Jack and Coke, I take in the dance floor. Everyone is grinding, but a group of girls in the center of the floor are just dancing together, laughing, and looking like they are having a blast. That’s the kind of friendship I crave. I may not be much of a people person, but I need someone in my corner beside my dad and Tomas.

“What’s a hot thing like you doing all alone?” asks a gentleman from next to me. I take in his appearance, and he looks like he could be a male model. Pretty boys just don’t do it for me, but he might be fun for just a night.

“Just enjoying myself, you?”

“Here with co-workers.” He nods his head to a booth at the end of the bar and there, a bunch of men in business suits, sit.

The bartender comes over and looks at me, glaring slightly. “Need this guy gone?”

Giving him a frown, I shake my head no. He raises a brow and goes to the other end of the bar, grabbing a phone. Weird.

“Wanna dance?” I ask this guy, not even bothering with his name.
