Mindi stares at me. “Oh, my God. That can’t be true.”

“It is,” I tell her truthfully. “Tank is gonna say he’s their dad to keep the boys safe, but Cracker wants to know if we’ll formally adopt them.”

“Why do we need to be the ones to formally adopt the boys?”

“Cracker is my brother. If we adopt Zane and Kade, they can be raised with him right here so he can keep them safe.”

Mindi nods. “Okay.”

“Okay?” I repeat. “Is that a yes?”

“Yes. We’ll adopt them. It’ll be nice for Ashley to grow up so close with her cousins.”

I kiss her pretty lips. “You’re an amazing woman, sweetness. I’m so glad I found you.”

She kisses me back. “You’re my life, Fist. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

We make love on the couch, the fire snapping, the Christmas tree lights twinkling, and the snow falling outside the window.

It’s the perfect ending to this Christmas Eve.
