CHAPTER9

Owen’s cock stretched her sheath, filling her completely. It had never been this way in the past, like they were each desperate for the other. When Owen had come into the gardening shed, Selena had known she was playing with fire. All day, she had replayed last night’s encounter in her mind. Then, there he was, in the flesh, looking devastatingly handsome. When he had said perhaps he should leave, she had said the first thing that had come to mind. No.

Even though she wasn’t sure what she wanted from Owen, one thing she knew was that she didn’t want him to go. She might worry that his memories would return, but right now, she was more concerned that he might leave. Her already fragile state was stretched thin, running the line between wanting to hate the Owen from the past, and wanting to embrace the new Owen.

When he had whispered sweet promises in her ear, vowing to protect her, Selena’s resolve had shattered. His lips upon hers had ignited the hidden desire she had kept locked away all these years. Was it merely lust she felt for Owen, or something more? She would think about it later. Right now, all she wanted was to feel, for the first time, like she was loved, cherished above all others. His larger body pressed her against the wall, holding her fast in a passionate embrace. As he worked his cock inside her sensitive channel, Selena gave over to the sensual thrill.

Owen laid little nibbles on the side of her neck. Their pants and grunts mingled in the small space, a testament to their exertion.

“God, how I have waited for this.” Owen plundered into her, increasing his speed.

“Don’t stop. Please.” Her words were breathless.

He tightened his hold as he dove deeper, harder, until the gardening tools hanging on the wall shook from the force. Each thrust felt like he was chipping away at her heart.

A strange sensation built between her legs, something she had never felt before. It grew the longer Owen ravished her. The feeling unfurled like a bloom on her flowers and spread through her body. It was close, whatever it was, just out of reach. As Selena reveled in her newfound sensuality, Owen let out a curse as he released his seed inside her.

The sensation slowly receded until it was nothing but a memory. Whatever it was, it was gone. Owen laid his forehead against hers. It was hot and sweaty from their joining. His chest heaved as he gulped in air.

Selena focused on her husband, who had lifted his head. An unsure smile tickled the corners of his mouth. It was endearing, and Selena could not help but smile back.

“That was unexpected,” she said.

“Was it a good or bad unexpected?”

“Very good.”

“I’m glad.” Owen released her leg so she could stand.

It took Selena a moment to get her footing. The entire encounter had left her lightheaded. Owen turned to fix his trousers, which gave Selena time to straighten her undergarments and skirt.

When he finished, Owen turned back at her. He went to speak, but then thought otherwise. This was awkward. Even Selena was not even sure what to say.

“Perhaps we should go inside and freshen up. It will be near to dinner time soon.”

“Yes, you’re right.” Owen motioned for Selena to go ahead of him.

Owen escorted her to her bedchamber door. Again, he seemed to want to say something, but kept quiet.

“I think I will rest until the dinner bell.”

“Then I will leave you.” He made a tiny bow.

Selena turned to open the door, but Owen’s hand made her pause.

“I meant what I said earlier. I will do everything in my power to keep you safe.”

“Thank you, Owen. I know you will.”

Selena opened the door, retreating into the safety of her chamber. She leaned against the door, her pulse racing. If they had more interludes like that, then there was a definite chance that she could lose her heart. Owen had been a gentleman since his return, but since their kiss last night, something had changed. Now that she knew what it felt like to be held in his arms and feel him inside her, she didn’t want to let him go. She was playing a dangerous game. One way or another, she might get burnt, especially if he regained his memories.

For now, she wanted a quick wash and a fresh gown. Selena rang for Katie, who arrived a few minutes later.

“Begging your pardon, your ladyship, but Mr. Sheffield just arrived wanting to see you.”

“Tell him I will be down shortly. I need to change.”

Katie hurried off to give the message, then returned to help Selena get into a light blue tea gown. With her face freshly washed and her hair in place, Selena went to meet her brother.
