“But I had already told you I had made my choice to stay with my husband.” She stepped into Owen’s arms. “And I am staying with my choice.”

David looked at the couple. Hopefully, he could see that Selena spoke the truth. “You are serious?”

“Yes. I’m sorry, David, if I have caused you any hurt. Things were different back then, but now, they have changed.”

He seemed to know that there would be no argument. David nodded his head. “Then I will not call on you again.” With that, he left.

Selena sank into Owen’s arms as he led her to the drawing room.

“Can you forgive me?” she asked.

“For what?”

“For David—for betraying you.”

“My dear, compared to everything I put you through, there is nothing to forgive. On the contrary, it makes me feel even more guilty that I pushed you so far that you had to find solace in the arms of another.”

“It was never physical. You must believe me.”

“I don’t care if it was. Like I said, I wouldn’t blame you.”

The old Owen would have ranted at her, threatened her for even a whisper that she had been unfaithful to him. Now Owen saw nothing wrong with her moment of weakness. She sent up another prayer of thanks for a second chance with him.

They spent the remainder of the day in blissful contentment. Cook made a celebratory dinner for Owen’s return home. That night, they made love again. Afterward, they lay in each other's arms.

“I have been thinking,” Owen said, placing a kiss on her bare shoulder.

“You’ve been doing a lot of that lately, I think.” They chuckled.

“Yes, I have, but there is something of the utmost importance that has taken up a place in my mind and will not let go.”

Selena turned to look at him, since his tone was serious. “What is it?”

“Children.”

“Children?”

“Yes. I want children with you, Selena.”

She bit her lip. Owen bent down and kissed her lips until Selena relaxed.

“Owen, I don’t know if I can give you children.”

“I said nothing about you having to birth them.”

She frowned. “What do you mean?”

“While we were in London, I noticed all the children running around, orphans, with no one to love them, and I thought mayhap we could adopt a few.”

Selena couldn’t believe what she was hearing. It had been her greatest wish to be a mother, and now Owen wanted to give her that opportunity. “Oh, Owen, that is a wonderful idea.”

“I don’t care if we don’t have children of our own. We still have plenty of love to give.”

“I didn’t think I could love you more, but I do.” She brought Owen down for another kiss, which quickly turned heated. Before she knew it, Selena was on top of Owen, riding his cock until they were both winded and satiated.

“You know, I guess I should be thankful for those blokes bashing me over the skull. It knocked some sense into me.” Owen tugged her against his broad chest. “Fate has a funny sense of humor, but I will cherish this second chance I have with you. I won’t take any of it for granted. I love you, Selena.”

“And I you.” She smiled up at Owen. “If anyone had asked me a few months ago what my life would be like right when you returned home, the last thing I would have guessed was that I would end up falling in love with my husband.”

He kissed her again, pouring all his heart and soul into the embrace. Any fatigue which may have settled in fell away as Owen’s mouth blazed a trail down her neck. Already the flames of passion were burning again. This was true love. Selena felt it in her soul. Their path to happiness may have been rocky, but together, she knew they could face anything.
