‘Someone who thinks it’s okay to take what they want. Someone who doesn’t give a crap about anyone else, and someone who wouldn’t think twice about shafting someone else to get ahead.’

Her skin burnt hot.

How dare he. He didn’t know her. He knew nothing about her. ‘I am not like that,’ she said, standing her ground. She’d never hurt a fly, not intentionally, anyway.

‘Seems that way to me.’

It was time to end this unwelcome exchange. She was in danger of losing her rag, or worse, dissolving into tears. ‘Look, not that I owe you an explanation, but I simply didn’t see you. Okay? It wasn’t a deliberate act tonickyour parking space, I just didn’t realise you were waiting for it.’

He folded his arms across his wide chest. ‘Well, now you do – what are you going to do about it? Are you going to move your car?’

‘Of course not. I’m late for a meeting.’

‘Right. So you are one of those people.’ He turned and stormed off, waving a hand dismissively. ‘Thanks for nothing.’

What a thoroughly unpleasant man.

Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she turned and marched away. How dare he accuse her of deliberately stealing his parking space, as if she’d do such a thing. She simply hadn’t seen him. She’d been too preoccupied, trying to persuade her father to see reason and not bring his girlfriend to her sister’s wedding. Was it any wonder she hadn’t been paying attention?

Anyway, it was his word against hers… if you ignored the skids marks… and the dashcam footage.

Okay, so maybe she had been driving a little erratically, but that still didn’t warrant him shouting at her in the street. Accusing her. Intimidating her.

The man was well over six foot. Wide, too, with large hands and thighs the size of tree trunks. She was five-nine herself, but it still wasn’t pleasant to be accosted in such a way, and over such a trivial thing like a blessed parking space.

She reached Caffè Nero, twenty minutes late, and joined the queue of people waiting to be served. She needed a tea to calm her nerves – her hands were still shaking from being shouted at.

Slipping off her suit jacket, she hooked it over her arm, fanning her face as she shuffled forwards in the queue.

She couldn’t see Zac anywhere so, unearthing her phone, she sent him a WhatsApp message, telling him she’d arrived. He replied saying he was seated at the far end of the cafe. She looked over, but still couldn’t see him.

Having placed her order, she moved to the collection point where several takeaway cartons sat on the countertop and people were barging past her to collect them. It was frantic, but then it was lunchtime.

Her tea arrived shortly afterwards, served as requested in a china cup. Picking up the tray, she turned to leave, but a man smacked into her, sending her tray flying and spilling the contents of the mug straight down her front.

Shock initially desensitised her from the heat hitting her chest.

She glanced down to see her white shirt stained brown, the material now see-through, her lace bra visible through the fabric. Oh, hell.

And then her gaze shot up when the man said, ‘Shit! Sorry!’

Her eyes locked with the shouty man from the car park who’d accused her of stealing his parking space. ‘Did you do that on purpose?’ she said, not caring if anyone overheard.

He looked shocked. ‘Why would I do that?’

‘Revenge? Payback for earlier?’

His eyebrows lifted. ‘Seriously?’

‘Did you follow me here? Is this your way of settling the score?’

He flinched. ‘Of course not. It was an accident. I didn’t see you.’

‘How could you not see me? I was standing right here.’

He gave her a loaded look. ‘Oh, like you didn’t see me in the car park?’

Touché. ‘So thisisrevenge?’
