Glancing over her shoulder, Connie wondered who the lucky woman was… only to discover it was her husband’s floozy, Tiffany.

What the hell was she doing here?

The shock sent her off balance. So much so that her disposable slippers lost their grip on the damp surface and the next thing she knew, her body slid inelegantly to a heap on the floor, her forehead smacking against the marble pillar as she did so.

Mortified at the thought of Tiffany seeing her sprawled on the ground, she scrambled behind the pillar, where she hid, praying that nobody had witnessed her tumble.

Tiffany let out another giggle. This was followed by the sound of a man’s mumbled voice and another peal of laughter.

Connie shifted slightly, so she could peer around the pillar.

The man with Tiffany was Kenneth. Of course it was. Why was she even surprised?

Her husband of nearly four decades. The father of her three children. The man who’d promised her the world and then buggered off when someone more enticing had come along.

And now, the cruellest act of all, he’d brought his new bit of fluff to their special place. The place where they’d drunk champagne and celebrated anniversaries. The place where they’d flirted in the hot tub and enjoyed couples massages. The place where they’d savoured adult alone time, away from the kids.

But instead of treasuring those memories and showing an ounce of respect for their time together, he was sullying it all by bringing his new girlfriend here.

She wanted to kill him.

Both of them.

Her newly manicured nails scratched the marble tiling beneath her, as she thumped her head rhythmically against the pillar. The muscles in her neck contracted, the skin on her arms tightening.

So much for a relaxing spa day. She was a coiled spring.

‘Are you all right, madam?’

Startled, she looked up.

A member of staff was looking down at her, a puzzled expression on his face. ‘Do you need medical assistance?’

‘Shush! Keep your voice down.’

He looked alarmed. ‘Is everything okay, madam?’

‘No, everything’s not okay. Have they gone?’

‘Has who gone?’

Connie jerked her head back. ‘The man and woman who were just standing there.’

He glanced to where she’d indicated. ‘There is no one there now.’

‘Are you sure?’

‘I’m positive. Can I help madam up?’ He offered her his hand.

She took it and let him pull her upright. ‘Thank you.’

‘You’re entirely welcome. May I be of any further assistance?’

‘No, thank you. I’m fine.’ She kept her back to the pillar, glancing surreptitiously around it to check that the man wasn’t lying.

‘Does madam require me to call security?’

‘Yes.’ Tiffany should be arrested and thrown out. They both should. But then she realised she had no grounds to have them expelled from the premises. ‘On second thoughts… no, that won’t be necessary.’
