“Baby,” Riggs speaks up from the driver’s seat, looking back in the rear view at me. “Mom is going to absolutely adore you. Rhys is right, you have nothing to worry about. Plus, if she can accept and love Adam, she can accept and love anyone.”

“Hey! Rude! I’m super fucking lovable,” Adam sulks, pushing the back of Rhys’ seat when he starts laughing. “Shut up, asshole! Don’t laugh at me.”

“Boys! Please settle down,” I shout, rubbing my temples. In theory it’s fantastic having three boyfriends. In reality? It’s only great like half of the time. This is one of those times when it’s not so great. “Adam, you know you're a dick to like eighty percent of people that aren’t children. Rhys, don’t antagonize him.”

Adam shrugs, nodding at me in acceptance while Rhys turns to give me a mock glare that he can’t hold because he’s smiling too much. Riggs and I look at each other in the rear view and shake our heads.

The rest of the drive goes by quickly, my anxiety lessening after the guys and their ridiculous fight. When we pull up in front of the cute white house, I almost feel normal again. The stress of everything going on keeps draining me of all energy, and today is no different. My goal is to relax while I’m here and try my best to not make an ass of myself.

The house is adorable with its white siding, baby blue coloured shutters, and large red oak tree in the front yard. It instantly makes me feel more comfortable because if this house is any reflection of Dot, I know I’m going to like her. Whether she likes me is a different story, but her son loves me so I think I have an okay chance.

We all pile out of the car, grabbing the bags of drinks and snacks we brought as our contribution for today. The door to the house opens before we even step away from the car, and the sweetest looking woman walks out in the brightest clothes I have ever seen in my entire life. Her short blonde hair is styled in a curly bob, and her blue eyes are so vibrant it’s hard to look anywhere else. I can see where Riggs got a lot of his features, just not where he got his height.

Dot Riggs isn’t a small woman, but she’s not much taller than average. With Riggs coming it at six foot five, I don’t think he got the height from her. The bright pink top and grey and pink striped leggings show off her fun personality. The crazy waving arms and huge ear to ear grin show it too.

“Come in, guys! We’re going to have so much fun today! I have been cooking and baking like crazy all morning,” Dot talks a mile a minute, her hands flying all over the place as she does. We walk through the house as she goes on about the food she made, but I can’t hear most of it with how bright and cozy the decor of the house is. It’s like a children’s doll house come to life, and it’s taking me a bit to register it all. I’m not used to so much brightness.

Dot hugs and kisses each of the guys as they walk past her into the brightly lit kitchen. They all lean down, giving Dot better access to their cheeks. Riggs kisses his Mom’s cheek back, making my heart melt a little bit in my chest.

“Put everything on the counter, boys. I need to finally meet this beautiful girl of yours.” Dot turns to me with an excited smile, clasping her hands in front of her.

Stupidly, I stand there looking like a deer caught in the headlights. I really wasn’t kidding in the car when I said I don’t do meeting the parents. Other than Declan who was an orphan like me, I didn’t care enough about anybody to get past their first names let alone meet their parents. It has me panicking and frozen.

“You must be Alayna,” Dot says finally, smiling so brightly and placing her hands over her heart. “I am so excited to meet you finally. I have been begging these boys to bring you over for a while. They always take their sweet time with everything. I thought I was going to be old and grey before I got to meet the woman that stole their hearts.”

“You’re okay with me and all of them?” I blurt out like a complete idiot. It’s something that has been running through my mind a lot since Riggs asked me to come last night. Polyamorous relationships aren’t exactly the norm.

“Oh darling, of course! Your lives are yours to live however that may look. Plus, heaven help any women who try to get these guys apart. They’re more of a team,” Dot explains with a laugh, her easy-going nature erasing all other worries in my mind. “And if anyone can handle all of them, it’s a strong woman like you. Riggs told me some of what’s been going on lately, and I am so sorry you have to go through that. I really hope they find that asshole soon.”

Riggs comes up behind me, placing a hand on my back as if to apologize for telling her. A laugh pops out at the word asshole coming from her lips. It sounds almost foreign coming from her, but she also has a hardness behind her eyes when she says it and I know there’s a badass hidden underneath that sweet personality. Dot is an enigma wrapped in an eighties coloured wardrobe.

“Thank you so much, and thank you for having me,” I respond, leaning into Riggs for support. “You have some pretty great sons, so they make it easy to handle them. Most of the time.”

“You’re too funny, sweetheart. Don’t be pumping their egos too big now, they’re far too big already. Come on, let’s head out back. Hailey is dying to meet you as well, but we didn’t want to overwhelm you right away.” Dot motions us towards the backyard, Riggs still holding me against him and Adam and Rhys talking behind us about some sort of water game.

Walking into the backyard is almost like stepping into a fairy garden. The amount of space back here dwarfs the house in comparison, and the flower gardens that line the backyard are breathtaking. There’s a white deck that extends from the house, and past that is a green lawn with a small fountain on one side and fire pit off to the other with a large seating area. A tall blonde woman is sitting on one of the couches, looking down at her phone with a frown.

“Hailey! Come over and meet Lay!” Dot calls out, grabbing the beautiful blonde’s attention.

Hailey runs over, her long blonde hair flying around in the wind. Her brown eyes crinkle at the sides from how large her smile is when she gets to us. Hailey is tall like Riggs, but slimmer than both him and his mom. The resemblance between all of them is almost uncanny though. You can tell Dot has some superior genetics.

“Lay! I’m so, so happy you’re finally here,” Hailey says, talking as fast and animatedly as her mom. “I’ve been dying for Hudson to bring you over. From everything he’s told us about you, which is a lot because the dude is low-key obsessed with you, I just know we’re going to get along great!”

“Hails, stop. You’re being overwhelming,” Riggs groans, gently pushing her shoulder.

“I am not! Go run off with the other two bozo’s, and leave us women alone,” Hailey pouts, motioning for me to follow her over to the seating area. Dot heads over there, Hailey on her heels.

Turning to the guys, I shrug and look between them and the seating area. “Apparently, you bozos need to go do your own thing. Women folk only.”

Adam steps forward, kissing me on the cheek with his mischief smile in place. My eyes narrow, my suspicious radar going off. “That’s okay. We have a standing engagement anyways. Watch me kick some ass, baby.”

“Oh, please.” Rhys rolls his eyes, kissing my temple in the middle of glaring at Adam. “You lose every single time. Stop boasting yourself up to Lay. It’s just going to be embarrassing for you in the end.”

Riggs shakes his head at both of them and comes up to hug me. “We have a long standing nerf gun war at Mom’s house. Rhys wins about seventy-five percent of the time, and Adam has literally never won. Doesn’t stop him from talking shit, though.”

“Does anything stop Adam from talking shit?” I tease, shooting Adam a wink. “Go enjoy yourselves! Winner gets a special treat tonight.”

The guys all look between each other with wide eyes before taking off towards a shed at the far side of the backyard. Laughing at their antics, I walk over to the couches where Hailey and Dot are lounging and laughing together.
