“I need to get out of here,” I say. “I think. I love this weather.”

“Cold weather blows,” Maz says.

“How poetic,” Birdie says. Then she looks at me. “I’m kind of comfortable right here.”

“Well, screw you both. I’m going to the lake.”

“Alone?” Maz asks.

“Yes. Alone.”

“That’s…”

“I’m anHeir,” I say. “Nobody is going to fuck with me. Or maybe I’ll call Cullen.”

“Word of advice,” Maz says. “Sex at the lake is not all that fun.”

“Whore,” Birdie says. “That was my fantasy!”

“You can’t own a fantasy,” Maz says.

“When did you do it?” Birdie asks.

I roll my eyes and go into my room.

I get my guitar and leave the dorm.

Both Maz and Birdie tell me to keep my phone handy in case things go wrong.

I really do consider calling Cullen.

But then I don’t.

Mostly because when I open the door, I see an envelope waiting.

I know who sent it.

I know what’s inside.

Idon’t open the envelope.

But I take it with me all the way to the lake.

I don’t get a ride to the lake either.

I am my own ride.

Once they see me and remember I’m anHeir, three guys demand to drive me to the lake.

I refuse but take a golf cart on my own.

At the lake, I sit down and take out my guitar.

I put the envelope in front of me.

I strum the guitar and start to sing a little.

“What’s in this envelope? Oh, wait, I know. If I open it, I just might die. If I don’t look, then I just might cry. What the fuck is happening… with my life…”
