I take the pill from Cullen.
Maz hands me another water bottle.
I swallow the pill down.
“There,” he says. “Now stand up and come with me. We’re going toMakson Ridge,love. You’re going to stay with me tonight.”
“That’s a good idea,” Maz says.
“You’ll be safe there,” Birdie says.
I stand up from the couch and Cullen takes my hand.
His fingers interlock with mine.
“Love you, Jaci,” Birdie says.
“I love you both so much,” I whisper. “I mean it. Thank you for being there for me.”
“We’ve got your back,” Maz says. “Just go with Cullen. Be safe.”
I look at Cullen.
I feel safe.
Kind of.
I’m not sure what would actually happen if he and Archer faced off.
Archer is big, mean and violent.
Then again, the last time I saw Cullen, he had blood on himself.
I shiver.
Feeling fear and being turned on at the same time has somehow become the normal for me.
By the time we leave the dorm, I can feel thezazakicking in.
I know exactly what kind of medication it is.
I feel calmer.
Maybe even a little bit safer too.
“You know, I’m going to ask what happened,” Cullen says to me.
“I know,” I say.
He wraps an arm around me.
He helps me into the waiting golf cart.
Then he drives us toMakson Ridge.
We hold hands the entire time.
The second he opens the front door to the house, Ronan and Mattia are waiting.
