His hands slipped into his pockets.

“Dean Tahg,” Maz says. “We were just going to class.”

“We’re very excited about class,” Birdie says.

She adjusts her glasses.

Dean Tahg nods. “That’s wonderful, ladies. Jaci, I need to speak with you. Privately.”

My heart sinks.

Dean Tahg has zero emotion on his face.

We walk side by side across the campus to the main office.

The cool October air is quickly starting to turn colder.

It’s officiallyhoodie season, which is the only season in life that really matters.

I curl my hands around the sleeves of my hoodie.

I’m scared. I don’t know why.

Wait. I do know why.

I’m scared Dead Tahg is going to kick me out ofDSC.

He’s going to tell me this was all a big mistake.

Or that I have to pay to be here.

My heart races.

There is no other option besidesDSCnow.

I can’t go back to Fay’s house.

I was there for, what, five minutes and some guy shows up and pulls a gun on me?

I can’t fucking go back there.

I also can’t afford to be atDSC.

The cost of this place per year was way more than the average person’s salary.

So what do I do next?

Just catch a ride to somewhere and start over?

Now my mind begins to race.

My grand plan?

Maybe I can work for one of the families.

Cullen’s family?

Or maybe I’ll just marry Cullen!
