He pours a drink and leaves it near the edge of the bar and walks away.

Archer nods to the glass.

“What is that for?” I ask. “You’re a dick to the bartender? Is that supposed to impress me?”

“You know if I wanted to be a really big asshole right now, sweet thing, I’d have you removed,” Archer says.

“And how would you do that?”

“Snap my fingers. Call over two bouncers.”

“Because everyone listens to you, right? What are you going to do if they don’t listen? Pull a knife on them?”

“I’ll just fire them,” Archer says.

I laugh. “Yeah. Sure.”

Archer lifts an eyebrow.

I stop laughing. “What…”

“This is my club,” Archer says to me. “I own it all. And in a way I own everything and everyone inside of it. That includes your ass, Jaci.”

Archer then walks away.

My heart sinks.

Cullen was right.

Mafia stuff isn’t always about blood and violence.

But that doesn’t make it any less scary.

And… fuck Archer Amatti.

He totally just messed up my entire night.

Chapter 44

Aweek later and it’s really cold out in the mornings.

There’s a small, glistening layer of frost on the leaves that have fallen to the ground.

It melts as soon as the sun hits it, but you can tell it’s only a matter of time before it’ll be snowing.

I just hope it’s a long time after the fall season is over.

Once the trees are completely bare and everyone is excited for Christmas.

Because right now, it’s Halloween season.

And, yeah, it’s a season around here.

The chatter about the Halloween party is everywhere.

It seems it’s the one night where everyone can maybe get along?

TheHeirsare talking about it.
