“No, sweet thing,” he says. “Here…”

Archer spins the knife around.

“What?” I ask.

“Take it,” he says. “You’re in control. Go ahead. Take the knife and tell me what to do. You’re theHeir, right?”

“You are too,” I say. “Remember? You chose to be aSavage.”

Archer spins the knife around again and closes his hand.

He makes the knife disappear.

I decide to keep my mouth shut and we walk back to the dorm in silence.

I have no idea how Birdie is going to react to this…

When I open the door and let Archer into the dorm, the look on Maz’s face…

She’s simply terrified.

I turn.

Birdie stands there with a bottle of water in her right hand.

She drops the water.

It hits the floor.

She scrambles to pick it up.

“I brought a visitor,” I say.

Maz swallows hard.

“We have to talk,” Archer says, looking at Birdie.

“Me?” Birdie asks. “You want to talk to me?”

I shut the door and lock it.

“Birdie, you might want to sit down,” I say. “Maz, sit next to her.”

“What the hell is going on?” Birdie asks.

“Listen to Jaci,” Archer says.

Maz and Birdie jump at his command.

They sit on the couch and Archer stands in front of them.

They’re staring up at him, both scared half to death.

“It’s been taken care of,” Archer says.

“What has?” Maz asks.

“What happened to Birdie,” I whisper.
