“The rumors are crazy.”

“They have to be crazy, love. It’s the only way to-”

“I know,” I say. “Spread enough rumors and nobody will ever know the actual truth. Even if by some small chance the cops were to show up, everyone has a different story to tell.”

“Exactly,” Cullen says. “You’re good at this.”

“I’m not sure that’s something to celebrate or not.”

“Believe me, it is.”

“Cullen… that day I came here and saw you and Quinn covered in blood…”

Cullen slowly runs his pointer finger over my lips.

Then he kisses me.

I take that as my hint to not ask those kinds of questions.

In other words - the less I know, the better.

“I feel trapped here,” I say. “On campus.”

“It’ll pass,” he says. “Trust me.”

“No, Cullen. It’s not that. I’ve been thinking about something.”

“What?”

“My old house. Where I grew up.”

“Okay,” he says.

“I want to go back.”

Cullen steps away from me. “What do you mean you want to go back? I thought last time you went…”

“I didn’t say I want to live there,” I say. “I just want to go back. I have this feeling. This urge. Like I need to see it again.”

“I don’t know, love,” Cullen says.

“You know I’m more than capable of going there by myself,” I say. “I did it before.”

“Except you weren’t actually alone.”

“Well, I’m giving you a little hint as to what my plans are then.”

“And I’m supposed to follow you?”

“You won’t follow me and keep me safe, Cullen?”

He curls his lip at me. “I’ll do one better.”

“What?”

“I’ll take you there myself, love.”

Cullen is always full of surprises.
