So, I kind of have no choice but to talk to him.

At the same time, I want to talk to him.

The point of the knife presses against my stomach.

I have my arms out.

“You can put your arms down,” Archer says.

“Are you ordering me to?”

“You have an attitude. Makes it easier to want to kill you.”

“I kind of feel if you wanted to kill me you would have by now,” I say.

“That is true.”

“You had a chance before too. Then we started talking last names. Remember?”

“Vividly,” Archer says.

His eyes are darker than night.

He’s smoldering and smells too good for a man who can kill.

The sharp and deadly blade can end my life in no time but here I am… studying his features.

“I believe in honor,” Archer says. “Something that doesn’t always pass down. The allure of this fucking place warps their minds.”

“Is that why you’re aSavageinstead of anHeir?”

“No.”

“I’m anHeir,” I say. “What happens if aSavagekills anHeir?”

“I guess we’ll find out,” Archer growls.

My toes curl tight in my crappy shoes.

This should not be turning me on even for a second…

… but it is.

“I’ll ask you one time, Jaci,” Archer says. “Do you know who Gino Amatti is?”

“No idea,” I say. “I know Amatti is your last name. So, I assume he’s related to you.”

“Do you know who Brian Ryliger is?” Archer asks.

“Never heard that name once in my life,” I say.

Archer’s jaw tightens.

I glance down briefly, and he moves the knife.

Up.

The tip points at my throat.
