“I’m changing the world,” I say.
Cullen smiles.
He stops at a door and opens it.
I step into the room and start to laugh.
I cover my mouth.
“Funny?” Cullen asks.
It’s the largest bedroom I’ve ever seen.
And it’s filled with guitars.
There are guitars hanging on the walls.
There are guitars balanced on guitar stands.
“You can practice, play, and write music here,” Cullen says. “That’s what being anHeiris all about. It’s about being comfortable and having everything you want. It’s so you can get ready to accept your position of power.”
I glance at Cullen. “And what position do I have? I don’t know who my family is. Or who I am.”
“Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this place, Jaci,” Cullen says.
“How much did this all cost?”
“Why does that matter?”
“I’m not going to be in debt to you,” I say. “Or to anyone else. I’m not going have all of this thrown in my face someday.”
Cullen nods. “You’re smart, love. You’re smarter than you realize. Or maybe you do realize it. You think you are street smart, Jaci. You’re more than street smart. You’re ready for this.”
“Are you flirting with me now, Cullen?”
“You know, I’m not sure there are rules for this kind of thing. TwoHeirswanting each other.”
“You want me? Or are you assuming I want you?”
Cullen touches the middle of my back and grins. “Stay here.”
“I can’t,” I say. “This is amazing. But I belong with Maz and Birdie.”
“I can keep you safer here.”
“If I’m so smart at this, then I can keep myself safe,” I say.
