Chapter 1

Here’s how it goes now…

Cullen leans against the house, his jaw tight, looking left to right, a million thoughts racing through his mind at once.

He takes a deep breath and looks to the porch steps.

Archer is at the bottom of the steps.

He’s not exactly pacing, but he’s walking.

A few steps to the left.

A few steps to the right.

He reminds me of a pissed off lion at a zoo.

Just going back and forth, not looking at anyone, but you know in your heart given the chance, he’s going to attack and tear you to pieces.

“We have to be smart with this,” Cullen says.

Archer stops and looks at Cullen. “Any other obvious statements you want to fucking make, Doyle?”

“Just trying to talk it out, Amatti,” Cullen says.

“Keep your fucking mouth shut,” Archer says. “I know this is someone who ties to you.”

“To me?” Cullen asks. He pushes himself from the house. “What the fuck did I ever do to her? You’re the one who’s been threatening her life from the second she showed up. Fuck, for all we know, she took off on purpose. Because of you. Maybe she went to go find her family. Maybe she’s too afraid to come back here because of everything you did to her. This is your fault.”

Without an ounce of hesitation, Archer flicks his wrist and a knife sails through the air.

Speed and precision is the name of this game as the knife hits the house, sticks with force, only missing Cullen by a few inches.

Both Cullen and Archer know if Archer wanted to hit Cullen, he would have. Or if he wanted the knife to kill him…

Cullen walks toward the steps.

Archer begins to climb the steps.

The door toMakson Ridgeopens and out runs Laz.

He’s got a chef apron on and nothing else.

“What the fuck kind of shit goes on here?” Archer asks.

“You would know but you chose to be aSavage,” Laz says. “I’ll stand right between you two all night. No throwing punches. Not like this. Not until we get her back.”

Cullen and Archer look at each other.

They both give a quick nod.

“Has to be something to do with her old life,” Cullen says. “You took her there, Archer. You saw it.”

“We also beat the piss out of her old friend,” Laz chimes in.

“Who?” Archer asks.

“Some kid named Marty,” Cullen says. “Dude was snooping around here looking for Jaci. He didn’t belong here. Not near her. Not near this house. Not on this fucking campus either.”
