Maz opens the door. “What the hell is that?”

“My shirt,” I say.

I hold the pink shirt against my body and toss my hair side to side.

“Am I in trouble now?” I ask in a sultry voice.

“That’s gross,” Maz says. “Please don’t dress up. Don’t act formal. There is no formal here. You’re going through hell, Jaci. Own it.”

“She’s probably right,” Birdie says. She sits on the edge of her bed. “I can’t live without you, Jaci. I’m used to you being here. You’re such a good friend to me. I’ll call in favors. For you.”

“Birdie, stop,” I say. “Stop making me nervous. I’m already scared. Just let me figure this out.”

“They’re all going to be there?” Maz asks.

“Tahg for sure,” I say. “And then Linda, Anita, and Brigid.”

“Which means Dean Tahg wants witnesses!” Birdie cries out.

“I have to go,” I say. “A hoodie it is.”

“Just be yourself,” Maz says.

She frowns.

She’s forcing herself to say that to me.

In all reality, I’m probably about to be kicked out of DSC for good.

Iknock on the office door.

My heart jumps into my throat.

I swallow hard.

I’ve got this.

The office door opens.

Dean Tahg stands there, staring down at me.

He looks sad. He looks pissed.

“Miss Ruby,” he says.

“We both know that’s not my real last name,” I say.

He nods.

He steps back and ushers me into his large office.

There are chairs set up.

Occupied by Linda, Anita and Brigid.

It’s almost like a courtroom setup.

They’re the jury.
