I refresh my screen, desperate to see my economics grade pop up.
Does this have anything to do with the notion that I’m going to sleep with Seth if I get a good grade?
Nope! Not at all!
“You’re glowing as you sit there,” Maz says to me. “And it’s making me jealous.”
“She’s going to fuck Seth,” Birdie says. “In my room. So I’m going to have to crash with you, Maz.”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” I say.
“Yes, you do,” Maz says. “Even if you bomb this paper, you’re going to sleep with Seth.”
“We had a deal,” I say.
“And you said he’s smart,” Birdie says.
“He’s really smart,” I say.
“Yet he does what he does…,” Maz says.
“It’s the same as us. It’s about family. History. Legacy. I’m piecing things together here. I think it goes deeper than we all realize. If I’m going to take my lessons from my economics class, whether Cullen and Archer will admit it, they need someone like Seth. And to be fair, Seth needs them. The Doyle family and the Amatti family? They’re big and powerful.”
“And Seth’s family?” Birdie asks.
“The Vossenax family is scary,” I say. “They have no remorse or care. They thrive off being outlaws. They love it. It’s starting to make some sense.”
“Yeah,” Maz says. “You get to sleep with three guys and it’s awesome. And I’m jealous.”
“There’s no way they aren’t jealous of it,” Birdie says. “They just hold it in. It’s sexy and scary.”
“You think it’ll boil over?” I ask.
