The air is crisp. So cold.

It doesn’t seem to bother Seth.

But why would it?

Seth is used to any kind of weather.

He earns his living on the street, no matter what.

Maybe in a sense Cullen and Archer have no idea what they’re about see.

Even still, my guys are mafia.

Seth is not.

It’s really that simple.

The moment I see the house, I stop and take a deep breath.

“You’re going to let me go up there alone first,” I say to Seth. “I have to see them together. I have to be alone.”

“Sure,” Seth says. “Go for it. I’ll be hanging around here, having a smoke. Beautiful weather. I love this setting too. The woods. The trees. Kind of spooky.”

“Yeah, real fucking spooky, Seth,” I say.

I hurry away from him.

I suddenly have the same sense of freedom I had when I escaped from his basement.

I begin to run.

Faster toward the house.

I feel like I can cry.

Oh, fuck it, I’m going to cry.

Tears trickle down my cheeks by the time I reach the porch.

I make my way up the steps and the front door opens.

I cover my mouth when I see Archer standing there.

He looks right at me.

Almost through me.

He shuts his eyes.

He opens them again.

“Archer,” I whisper.

He jumps out of the house and toward me.

When we hug, I start to cry even harder.

“Doyle!” Archer bellows. “She’s back!”
