I stop the golf cart and the three of us hurry inside.
The warm smell of freshly brewed coffee hits my nose.
From the corner of my eye I see Rosa.
I gasp.
I quickly send Maz and Birdie to the line and tell them I need to use the bathroom.
I secretly nod to Rosa, then walk to the bathroom and wait for her.
When the door opens behind me, she walks up to me and grabs my arms.
“Are you okay?” she asks.
“I’m here,” I say.
“You were kidnapped, right?”
“How did you know that?” I ask.
Someone knocks on the bathroom door.
“In here!” Rosa calls out.
“Can you hurry?” a voice asks.
“I’m just glad you’re safe,” Rosa says. “Listen, these are on me. Just be safe.”
Rosa grabs my right hand and hands me a small baggie with somezazasin it.
She then opens the door and walks out.
Another person comes into the bathroom, looks at me and gasps.
“Thanks for fucking that up for me,” I snap, then I storm out of the bathroom.
I tuck thezazasinto my pocket and go join Birdie and Maz in line.
A few minutes later, I’m sipping coffee and life is supposed to feel better.
But it doesn’t.
Everything feels…off.
And I’m supposed to just show up to class and act like everything is cool?
Chapter 18
Now I have to split up with Maz and Birdie.
I need to get all the business work I’ve missed from Professor Mordec.
It’s not like I was gone for two months or something.
I should be able to get all the missed work, take a night or two and get it done, and then be right back on track.
I hurry up a set of concrete steps and open the heavy door to the business lecture hall.
