“She’s not the best bully for nothing,” Eva managed another weak smile, “but, I don’t care about her right now. I can’t wrap my head around this bet. Is it really true?”

“I don’t know anything about it,” Bella replied.

“Well, you probably wouldn’t know anything about it even if it was true,” Eva said, with an apologetic look on her face, “and neither would I.”

“So, what are you going to do?” Bella asked.

Eva could see little lines on her forehead forming, with all this worry.

“Well, the damage has already been done,” Eva frowned. “I probably can’t undo that. But, I guess I can talk to Dorian and see what he knows about this.”

“Do you think it’s true?” Bella asked the only question she needed an answer to, but was afraid to voice her doubts.

“Honestly?” Eva asked. “I don’t know. I feel like someone swiped the carpet I was standing on, and I’m balancing on a beam, about to fall down any second. It’s a horrible feeling.”

“I know,” Bella replied, sympathetically. “I’m here, for whatever, you know that.”

“I know and I really appreciate this but I need to go see Dorian and ask him if this is true.”

“Do you think he’d lie if it was true?”

“I hope not. I trust him. I still do. I’m just like that, I guess. I give my trust out freely, but once you lose it, it’s almost impossible to get it back.”

“I hope this is just a lie she made up to get to you,” Bella smiled awkwardly, “but, even if it’s not, we’ll get through this. Everyone will just forget about this and find something else to mock or laugh about. It won’t be like this forever.”

“I know but I really like him, Bella. I really wanted us all to be together, despite all odds.”

“Then, go fight

for him,” Bella smiled.

Eva got up and took a deep breath. She looked like a warrior princess, about to enter the biggest fight of her life. She turned to Bella, but what came out of her mouth made them both chuckle.

“Now, I’d rush over if I knew where Dorian’s dorm room was.”

When they stopped laughing, Bella stood up and went to her desk, rummaging a little through the first drawer. Then, she took out a piece of paper with some writing on it.

“Here,” she gestured at Eva to take it.

“What is this?” Eva wondered, not really looking at the paper.

“It’s Dorian’s dorm room and Frey’s, also, Sebastian’s.”

“What?” Eva couldn’t believe it. “You have this? How long have you had this?”

“Oh, just a few days,” Bella shrugged her shoulders like it was no big deal. “When you told me what happened between you guys, and then you mentioned Sebastian, I figured, it’d be good to know where they are, so if you don’t return home one evening, I know where to go and look for you.”

Eva couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Her heart was about to burst open, despite all the nasty stuff that just happened. Bella always managed to make everything better and she loved her for it.

“I don’t know what to say…”

“Just go and see what he has to say,” Bella always kept it low drama. “If it’s not true, go be happy. If it’s true, then kick his ass.”

“Will do,” Eva nodded, giving Bella a big hug.

Chapter 19

Eva was already on the move, as she was looking at the little crumpled piece of paper she was squeezing in her hand, as if her life depended on it. Occasionally, she’d think that she’d meet one of those people who were there when Katrina told her about this stupid bet, and that they would stop her and make fun of her, but she realized that no one paid any attention to her. It was late afternoon and the campus was crowded. The weather was pleasant, so everyone wanted to be outside for as long as they could, as the wind got colder in the evenings and it would chill you to the bone.
