One month later…
“I’m ready to see you in white.” My voice is low as I kiss the delicate skin of her neck.
“I thought you wanted me showing first.” Skyler turns in my arms to look up at me.
“It won’t be much longer.” My hand goes to her belly and she looks around quickly to make sure no one sees me.
“Please. You’re already wearing my ring. How much more evidence do you think people need?” I smile at her as I kiss her quickly.
“We haven’t exactly told your family any details,” she whispers when I bury my face in her neck.
“I like having you all to myself.”
“I think after today that’s going to be a little more difficult.” She clears her throat and I look up in time to see Gia peeking out at us.
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” I agree, knowing I’ve got a lot of making up to do with her and Marco. I wasn’t exactly welcoming with him when I first found out, but I’d like to blame it on trying to stay away from Skyler. I can’t imagine the monster I’d become if I had to do it now. The more time we are together, the harder it is for me to spend even a moment away from her.
But now that Marco and I are business partners, everything has changed. We’ve buried our pasts and created the business we both always dreamed of. I’m not afraid like I used to be, because I know at the end of the day I’ve got Skyler and our growing baby by my side and I’ll always do whatever it takes to care for them. It doesn’t matter what comes our way, I’ll face it head on and protect them from it.
In a way failure gave me the courage to know what I’m capable of. When I lost it all, I worked harder than I ever had in my life to get back on top. I know I can do it again and again if it means giving Skyler everything she’s ever dreamed of.
I bought the ring on her finger after the first time I saw her. I knew instantly she was the one, but fear kept it in my pocket. I promised myself that when I had her under me, I’d make sure I damn well I never let her go.
“I need you,” I say and pull her close.
“Jason?” She looks up at me with wide eyes. “Here? Now? Your sister is about to walk down the aisle.”
“She’s always late,” I say, taking Skyler’s hand and leading her through the crowd back to the other end of the long hall where I saw a door marked private.
I peek inside and see a small office and pull Skyler in with me. She giggles as I lock the door and then lift her up in my arms.
