“Then I’d squeeze your clit, and that would take you over the edge.”

“Then what?”

“We’d go to the restroom. You first, then I’d follow,” he said in a low voice, struggling to catch his breath himself. “I’d go in, and we’d fuck on the counter. I’d turn you around, facing the mirror. I’d pull your shirt off, so I could see your tits, and squeeze them while I give it to you hard. I’d slip my fingers in your mouth, so you could taste yourself, and know what I’ll be eating later.”

She parted her lips, an expression of surprise crossing her face, then pure desire sparked in the golden specks of her eyes. Her pupils dilated even more, and she bobbed her head forward in agreement, her body already agreeing to what her lips would not. Or would they?

The waiter returned with a friendly smile on his face. “How’s your appetizers? Have we decided on what else we want?”

Luc leaned closer, his eyes boring into hers. “Have we?”

* * *

Kira handed the waiter the menu. She’d chosen the first thing she saw, and hoped her stomach would agree. Truth was, the printed words had danced on the page, her field of vision still blurry and common sense foggy, from the graphic play-by-play that Luc had taken her on just a couple minutes prior.

Ardor fueled her nerve endings, and a jittery sensation took hold of her. No matter how many times she shifted on the booth, she just couldn’t get comfortable.

God, how to stop this…?

“Tonight,” she blurted out, her brain working overtime to catch up with her lips. “We’ll have sex tonight,” she said in a lower voice, glancing around to make sure no one heard them.

“Why not now?”

“Because you just described everything so well, I’d hate to try it right away and be disappointed,” she lied. She wouldn’t do it now because, well, first, they were in public, and second, she needed time to process the fact she not only agreed to have sex with him, but propositioned they do it later. She’d need the rest of the day to calm her nerves.

His wicked smile sent a shiver over her skin. “Oh, I guarantee you, you won’t ever be disappointed when it comes to pour baiser.”

“That sounds dirty.”

“I’ll show you… tonight.”

Her stomach fluttered. She couldn’t wait.

“Hey. Everything okay?” Poppy asked when she opened the door.

Kira rushed into the apartment they once shared, missing her two best friends. “Where’s Billie?”

“Oh, she’s at work. I got home early so when you texted me, I told you to come.”

Oh, the benefits of having a company car and a driver… she’d finished her work early and texted her cousin. She needed some advice, some good sense, even if she was nervous about saying out loud, to another person, that she’d be fucking the man she was supposed to keep at an arm’s length tonight.

Kira plopped on the couch, kicking up her shoes and willing herself to relax. She was home. She could be herself here—with her family. She didn’t have to pretend anything. Not to be attracted, not to be annoyingly fascinated by Luc. Not to be an idiot about to get mixed up with a man far more experienced than her.

“I just missed you guys,” she said with a nostalgia in her voice like she had been away from them for years rather than days. “Because everything happened so fast.”

“Do you regret getting married?” Poppy asked. “Because if you do, I don’t blame you. I appreciate you sticking your neck out for me, but—”

“It’s not that, Poppy. Please stop. I don’t regret marrying him. Being around him on the daily, though, is… hard. I’m just worried I bit off more than I can chew,” she said. She’d decided on sleeping with Luc, yes, but would that be only the starting line of her shortcut to a broken heart? What if she got attached to him, more than intended? Her stomach curled, an acidy taste on the back of her throat. “Luc is just so—”

“Handsome? Rich? Hot?” Poppy said, batting her impossibly long eyelashes.

“Yes. All that. What if I get emotionally invested, and he gets tired of me?” She couldn’t voice her real concern. What if she sucked in bed and he made her feel like shit? Or avoided her the next day? Or worse, found someone else to sleep with, even though they had a clause that strictly forbid him to do so?

“Kira. That’ll be impossible.”

“Why? Andrew cheated on me. And Luc is used to all kinds of women…” Women way more glamorous than her, women from his world.

“Andrew is a fucking moron,” Poppy said, anger in her voice. “And honestly, Shelby isn’t that much better. She’s your sister. You’ve done everything you could for her… and she wronged you more than once.”

Kira looked down at the carpet. “I know.” She sighed.

“You’re a smart, funny, caring woman with so much to give to the right person,” Poppy said, a pretty smile reaching her eyes. “Don’t ever think less of yourself.”

“Thanks to you, I never will.”

Poppy hugged her, a reminder of who her real sister had been for all those years. She, and Poppy and Billie were the trio with unshakable bond. Now, more than ever, she was grateful for it. If Luc managed to break her heart, she’d have her cousins’ support. She’d make it out okay. She had to. “Good.”
