“I do listen when Evie rattles off the long list of things she insists I know about this wedding.”

“Begrudgingly, I’m sure. Tell me, then.”

He looked over at her. “What?”

“What do you know about the wedding?”

“Is this a pop quiz?”

“Yes. Come on, Callahan.” She shifted so she was fully facing him, a smile tugging at her lips when his frown deepened. “I’m on the edge of my seat here.”

“Forget I said anything.”

“Oh, no.” She reached over and snatched the keys out of the ignition, holding them against her chest. “Tell me two things you know about the wedding.”

“Don’t think I won’t come over there and get those,” he said, eyeing where her hand clutched the keys between her breasts.

“Two things,” she repeated, ignoring the way his stare made her blood hum.

He heaved a dramatic sigh, and she fought hard not to roll her eyes. “The flowers are orange and red. Expensive. Being flown in from Costa Rica or something.”

“Brazil,” she said, trying to mask her surprise. “And the second thing?”

His fingers tapped a quick beat on the steering wheel, and she thought she had him until he finally said, “There are two flower girls.”

She cocked her head and held his gaze. “Why?”

His eyes dropped to her breasts again and lingered. “You said two things. I gave you two things. But it's because you have two five-year-old nieces and couldn’t pick which one, so you picked both.”

Without another word, he held out his hand for the keys, and she reluctantly dropped them into his palm.

“Color me surprised, Callahan. You do listen. Now are you going to ruin this cake tasting experience for me? Because I’ve been looking forward to it all day.”

“That’s what we’re doing here? Cake tasting?”

She cast her eyes to the ceiling before climbing out of the truck. “I’ve mentioned it no fewer than three times today,” she said when he joined her.

“Yeah, but I wasn’t listening all those other times. I like cake.”

“That’s great,” she said, starting across the lot. “But I don’t want your opinion. You can eat cake in silence.” She ignored him when he scoffed. “I haven’t been able to make a single goddamn decision about this wedding on my own. I want to make this one.”

He held up his hands in surrender while she pulled open the shop door and motioned for him to go ahead of her. When he refused, she took a deep, calming breath and brushed past him.

As they approached the counter, she watched the woman standing next to a case of cupcakes rake her eyes over Aidan from head to toe. The vicious stab of jealousy caught her so off guard that when the man closest to them asked how he could help, she jumped.

“We’re here for the cake tasting for the Callahan wedding.”

“Oh, of course. Have a seat, and I’ll get you set up.”

The woman continued to stare as they claimed a table by the front window, and Viv grit her teeth. The fucking nerve.

“What is wrong with you?” Aidan asked, glancing up from his phone. “You look like you’re about to punch someone.”

“That woman is practically eye fucking you,” she replied, trying to keep her voice light.

He set his phone on the table and casually glanced over his shoulder. “Jealous, princess?”

“Oh, please. It’s just rude. I mean, I’m sitting right here, and we’re tasting wedding cake flavors. Catch a clue, lady.”
