“Youdidn’t tell them?” Libby replied.

“Because I thought you had told them already!”

“It wasn’t my news to tell!”

Cait sighed, her smile wistful, and rested her hands on her round belly. “Well, I guess now I understand why you never asked me about it when we talked.”

“When did you…how far…” Evie turned to Libby. “How did you…? Well, just…come in.” She blew out a breath and stepped back from the door. “It’s cold outside.”

“I missed you,” Cait said, voice cracking as she wrapped Evie in a tight hug. “There’s…” her words trailed off.

Evie nodded as if she understood. “I know.”

“All that worrying for nothing,” Viv whispered as Cait hugged Declan, Brogan, and Libby in turn.

“Mmm,” Aidan mumbled.

“Aidan,” Cait said, clasping her hands so her arms framed her belly. “You’ve grown up a lot since I left.”

He lifted a brow. “I’m exactly the same size.”

Cait’s gaze slid to Viv and back to him, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. “That’s not quite what I meant.”

“You’re an annoying big sister,” he said, eliciting a bright smile from her by using his favorite tease.

“Yeah, but I’m your favorite one.”

He wrapped her in a strong hug and whispered against her ear, “I’m sorry, Cait. I wish that…I’m so sorry.”

Cait pulled back, eyes serious as she searched his. “Don’t do that,” she said, low enough that only he and Viv could hear. “I’ve heard enough from Evie to know what Brogan has been saying. He’s hurt.”

“But I—”

“No,” Cait interrupted. “I don’t blame you, and I know Finn wouldn’t either. So don’t go blaming yourself. Okay?”

He pressed a long kiss to her forehead until he was sure his voice wouldn’t shake. “Okay.”

Cait released Aidan and turned to Viv, who had tears in her eyes that she was rapidly blinking back. “You must be Vivian. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Good things, I hope. And please, call me Viv.” Viv extended her hand. “It’s so nice to meet you.”

“Do you mind if I hug you instead?”

“Oh, ah, no.”

Cait wrapped her arms around Viv, and Aidan noticed the small smile that ghosted Viv’s lips.

“We’re sisters now,” Cait said when she released her. “Sort of.”

“You’ll always be ours, Cait,” Declan assured her.

“Always,” Evie promised.

“Evan is asleep with my parents across the street, so I have a few hours. What have I missed?”

Evie looped her arm through Cait’s and led her back to the solarium with everyone following, but Viv gripped Aidan’s arm and held him back.

“Are you okay?”
