She’d rather be at home with Aidan watching a movie than here listening to drunk people get drunker. They hadn’t watched a movie together yet. She doubted he’d ever done that with another woman either. Another first for them to share. She turned to go in search of him.

“Long time, no see, Viv.”

She froze at the voice behind her. Fear licked at her belly, but she schooled her features before pivoting, eyes searching for the fastest way away from him.

“Collin.” She crossed her arms over her chest and took a step back. “Not quite long enough.”

He took a step forward, a grin spreading slowly across his face. He liked when he scared her. He always had. But she wouldn’t let him see that. He didn’t deserve that kind of power over her.

“What are you doing out here all by yourself?”

The tone of his voice had her gaze traveling over the rest of the patio and realizing the crowd had mostly disappeared back inside to escape the chill even the alcohol couldn’t chase off.

“Just getting some fresh air. I was actually going back inside to find my husband and leave.”

She knew instantly that calling Aidan her husband had been a bad move. Colin leapt at her, gripping her arm and shoving her back against the high brick wall lining one side of the fire pit.

Viv swallowed the panic that rose in her throat and shoved at his chest. “Get off me, Collin.”

“I know you’ve missed me, Viv.” His breath fanned against her face, and his proximity made her nauseous. “Do you think about me when he’s fucking you? Wish it was my cock instead?”

He fisted his hand against her hip, and she felt the material of her dress bunch in his fingers, riding up her thigh.

He pressed his nose into her hair, inhaling deeply. “Mmm, I want you right now, baby. Can’t you tell how much?”

When he moved to grind his hips forward, she stepped out of his path, and he scowled, gripping her arm and hauling her closer.

“Let go of me, Collin. Now.” She hated the tremble in her voice, but he seemed to delight in it.

“I don’t know why you’re being such a bitch. You used to beg for it. Beg me to use you.”

“If that’s how you remember it, then you’re delusional. At worst, I laid there until you were finished. At best, I faked an orgasm so you would get off me.”

He pulled her forward and shoved her back against the wall so hard she had to blink against the stars that formed in her vision.

“You lying slut. If you’ve forgotten how good I was to you, then maybe you need a reminder.”

He moved in again, and she darted her eyes over his shoulder. It was enough of a distraction for him to turn slightly away from her, and she seized the opportunity to ram her knee into his crotch. Sprinting away when he reached down to cradle himself, she yelped when he recovered fast enough to grip her hair and tug her backward.

He hauled her back against his chest, cinching one arm around her waist and squeezing her breast roughly with his free hand. “Just for that,” he snarled in her ear. “I’m not even going to be gentle when I fuck you.”

Sucking in a deep breath, she slammed her heel down onto his toe, running as soon as he released his hold. “Aidan!” she screamed, panic lacing the single word.

She saw a body moving quickly through the crowd before Collin caught up with her and prayed it was Aidan’s. Collin had his arm wrapped around her neck when Aidan burst through the wall of people, gun already drawn at his side.

“It would be a very good idea for you to let go of my wife.”

“Hello, Aidan. Tell me,” Collin dragged his fingers over the side of her breast, and she saw Aidan’s fingers tighten on the gun in his hand. “Do you like to watch?”

“I’m going to kill you, Collin. You get to decide how much time there is between now and then.”

“Viv, baby,” Collin said, gripping her arm and shoving her to the side. “Do me a favor, and wait right there while I kill your husband.”

Collin cracked his neck with an audible pop and drew a gun from the waistband of his pants. But before he could raise it, Aidan rushed him, slamming his elbow into Collin’s face.

Collin’s head snapped back, and he nearly dropped his gun. He recovered quickly, but Aidan was faster, catching Collin’s wrist between his forearm and bicep when he raised his arm to shoot and shoving his other hand against Collin’s upper arm.

The result was a sickening crunch of bone and Collin’s scream of pain. When Aidan released his arm, Collin stumbled back, and the gun fell to the ground. Viv dove for it, scrambling out of Collin’s reach when he tried to grab for her ankle. With practiced hands, she popped out the magazine and threw it over the brick wall into the yard.
