“I can think of a few reasons.” Rider held out his hand, and Paris located her keys to give him. “Be right back.”

Once Rider stepped out of the diner, she faced Grayson. “This is a nightmare. Jenna and I have been so careful. He can’t suspect anything.”

“Maybe Delancey insisted that Doug keep tabs on you.”

“But why?”

“Asking him might not be smart.”

“Ugh.” Going after someone as powerful as Delancey might have been a mistake.

Rider returned shortly and handed her back the keys. “I found something under the bumper.”

Her heart nearly stopped. “A camera?”

“It looks like one, but that’s Grayson’s expertise.” He turned to his friend. “If it is a camera, should we disable it?”

“If we do, he’ll know we’re on to him,” Grayson said.

“You’re right,” Rider said. “I’m not thinking straight.”

“Why would he put a camera on my car in the first place? I’m a nobody.”

Grayson smiled. “That couldn’t be further from the truth. Doug could merely be a love-sick boss who wants to keep tabs on you. Nothing more sinister than that.”

“Or the big boss suspects you know something. Someone could have overheard you and Jenna discuss a sensitive topic, and that person turned you in,” Rider added.

Paris felt sick to her stomach. “I’ve messed up.”

Grayson reached across the booth and clasped her hand. “You don’t know that. From now on, be extra diligent.”

“I have to find out if there’s a camera on Jenna’s car. If there is, then I know he suspects us. If not, then maybe it means he is a possessive, jealous asshole.”

Rider huffed out a laugh. “Way to not mince words.”

Paris located her phone and called Jenna.

“Is everything okay?” her friend asked.

“Yes and no.” Paris explained that Doug had followed her to the diner. “I called Rider and Grayson, and they’re here with me now.”

“Good thinking.”

“I’m calling because when Doug left, Rider checked out my car and found a camera attached tomy bumper!”

“No way. That’s terrible.”

“Can you see if there is one on your car, too, and then call me back?” she asked.

“Sure. Give me a moment.” Jenna disconnected, and Paris slumped in her seat. “She’s checking.”

“Rider and I have been thinking. We don’t like the idea of Doug knowing where you are at all times.”

“Me neither.” That would be terrible. “But what can I do? If we remove the camera, he’ll know I’m on to him.”

“What do you think about staying at our motel?” Grayson held up a hand. “You can have your own room. One of us will drive you to and from work every day. That way, your car won’t give away your location.”

“And what? Leave my car at my house? It’s not like I go a lot of places.”
