His attitude pissed her off. “Are you saying I’m not part of this group? That my opinion doesn’t count?”

He stepped back and held up his hands. “Not at all. I figured you might be bored, that’s all.”

She doubted that was what he meant, but she’d let him slide. “Being bored is the last thing I’ll be.”

“Your choice.”

“Thoughts?” Rider asked the others.

Everyone looked at each other, but no one said anything, which wasn’t good.

“I’ll try to do a deep dive on this Sergio Gonzalez guy,” Mick said. “If I can tie him to Harrison Industries, it might help.”

Rider paced. “If your wife and child had been threatened, what would you do?” he asked.

“I'd leave town to take them some place safe,” Grayson said.

“Exactly. Grayson and I will watch the house tomorrow around seven a.m. when he gets off work.”

“It's possible they'll run," Mick said. "I’ll see if the wife, Maria, or Sergio has family in another part of Canada. Unless they’ve saved a lot of money, they might not be able to afford to stay at motels for long. Besides, that would be too easy to track. Even if they used cash, they’d have to go to a teller machine and use a credit card for the cash.”

Basically forcing that family to run wasn’t right. “The only way Doug would threaten them would be if he was told to. And the only reason to do that would be because Sergio threatened to quit or something,” Paris said.

Rider faced her. “When you’re at work tomorrow, just keep an eye on Doug, okay?”

“He’s down the hall, but I’ll try.” She finally remembered about the possibility of cameras. “I might be paranoid, but for some reason, I have the sense that I’m being watched or listened to when I’m at work. Could they have hidden cameras or listening devices that would be hard to notice?”

Grayson nodded. “I’m afraid so. Your computer has a built-in camera and microphone. They could have tapped into that for starters.”

Chills raced up her arms. “What about hallways and stuff?”

“If the administration really wants to know what people are saying, they could imbed a camera in a picture frame, for example. Listening devices are just wires. They basically can go anywhere.”

“That means I should keep my mouth shut unless I’m outside, right?”

He nodded. “That would be for the best.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

Unfortunately, when Paris arrived at work the next day, she was told that Jenna had called in sick. That worried Paris. As much as she wanted to call her friend, she feared both her cell and the phone on her desk might be bugged.Shit.

Last night she’d come up with a plan, albeit one that could get her into a lot of trouble. The more she thought about what the men would need to prove a cocaine plant was housed underground on the Harrison Industries property, the more she realized she had to confront Richard Delancey. It was the only way to possibly see this lab.

Before Paris lost her nerve, she squeezed her bobby pin to activate the tracking device and pressed the button on her shirt to turn on the small camera. Then she texted the men and told them to watch. She was vague about whatwatchmeant, but hopefully, they would figure it out.

Grayson replied immediately, even though they told her not to contact them. The message contained one word:Stop.

Well, too bad. They seemed to be out of options, and hers had potential. Not that what her father said could be used in court, but it might guide the men about what to do next.

Uh-oh.She hadn’t even asked if the camera had sound. It could just be a silent video. Too late now to find out.

Paris pushed back her chair and headed toward the administrative offices. Naturally, someone stopped her and asked why she needed to go into the restricted area.

“I’m here to see Dr. Delancey. It’s about some employee theft.” She figured that should get her in even without an appointment.

“Come with me.”

She followed the young man toward the back. Without looking obvious, she twisted right and then left, hoping the camera would pick up more details about the area. If the men were watching, she bet they were cursing up a storm.
