“We checked out the place before we came over. Don’t worry. We’ll make sure no suspicious person can get anywhere near you,” Alex said.

“Good to know.” That calmed her that these men were so conscientious.

Once at the center, Alex remained outside, while she and Liam went in.

Tawny was with someone who appeared to be looking for a rescue animal.

“When Tawny is finished, I’ll introduce you to her.”

“Have you let her know what happened?”

“No, but her father is the sheriff, and he knows everything.”

Liam’s eyebrows rose. “He’d tell his daughter about an ongoing investigation?”

She hadn’t expected that reaction. “I don’t know. When I speak with her, I’ll find out.”

Once the customer left, Tawny came over. What Ariel hadn’t expected was the interest that sparked in both of their eyes. Liam had been clean shaven when he arrived this morning at Benson’s home. Now it looked as if he’d sprouted a beard. Very strange.

“Tawny, this is Liam Zano. Alex Carter, his partner, is outside. Benson and Preston wanted me to have bodyguards.”

Her mouth turned into a small circle. “Bodyguards. What happened?”

Liam touched Ariel’s shoulder and then looked over at Tawny. “If you don’t mind, ma’am, I’d like to look around.”

“Of course.”

Once he went toward the back, Tawny practically dragged Ariel into her office. Only when they were seated, did the grilling begin. “What’s going on?” she asked under her breath.

“Your father didn’t mention anything about my stalker or the near miss on the hit and run?”

“What? No.”

“Please don’t say anything, but Anna Ackerman has been abducted.”

Tawny blew out a breath. “Oh my god. How horrible. If I had wine at the center, I’d pour us a glass. Tell me what you can. I promise I won’t say a word.”

She believed her, so Ariel told her everything that she knew. Tawny was a Granger, and as a result, she was connected to a lot of people. Hopefully, those people were different from the ones Benson or her father knew.

“How long will you have these men follow you around?” Tawny asked.

“For as long as I need, but they are in the process of opening a business here.” She explained how they wanted to teach people to fight better. "They are using some old barn on Benson’s father’s ranch for now."

“Interesting. I’d like to meet the other fellow.”

“Alex is outside to make sure that no one is sneaking up on us or trying to take my picture. If that happened, I might hole up at Benson and Preston’s house until all of this has blown over.” She stood. “Let me introduce you to Alex.

Tawny smiled. “I have to say that Liam fellow sure is hot.”

Ariel chuckled. “I suppose he is, but as long as I’m sharing, I might as well tell you that I’m interested in your cousin, as well as in Preston.”

“Is that so? I might be a bit prejudiced, but you couldn’t have found two better men.”

Ariel grinned. “I couldn’t agree more.”

They both left Tawny’s office, but they didn’t see either man in the main area.

“Is Alex outside?” Tawny actually sounded worried.
