Page 92 of Meant for Them

“Call them.”

Ariel should contact Preston at least to see if he was okay. Him collapsing and shifting into a wolf had given her such a scare.

“What if they tell me they don’t want me back?”

Beth took the brush from Ariel’s hand, set it down, and then picked up the dog. Once she returned him to his crate, she came back. “Are you out of your mind? They love you. They want to give you time to figure things out. If they rush you, it might ruin everything, and they know it.”

“You think?”

Beth rolled her eyes. “You are a basket case.”

“I am. What should I do?”

Beth planted a hand on her chest. “In your heart, I think you know.”

Ariel inhaled. “You mean go to them and say I’m sorry?”

“That and tell them how you really feel.”

Ariel nodded. “That I love them?”

Beth smiled, and then she stilled. Her gaze went behind Ariel. “Well, look who is here.”

Ariel spun around, and her heart dropped to her stomach, rolled around, and then returned to beating—albeit a lot faster than before. Too bad her feet wouldn’t move. “Benson. Preston. You both look so…perfect.”

They both grinned and moved closer. “I’m sorry,” Benson said.

That wasn’t want she expected him to say. “For what?”

“Preston and I didn’t handle things well.”

She nodded to Beth. “I told her everything.”

Thankfully, no one else was in the main area of the clinic. The two doctors were in the back, and Jeffrey was doing some cleanup.

“Can we talk?” Benson asked.

“Yes, she would love to talk with you,” Beth said. “You go. It’s almost time to close anyway.”

A small giggle bubbled up. “Are you sure?”

“Yes. I’ll be going straight home after work, so if you need anything, stop by.”

“Okay.”

“Grab your coat,” Preston said.

Ariel was happy that someone knew what she should do. No sooner had she gathered her gear than Benson’s phone rang, but he didn’t answer it.

“Go ahead,” she said. “It might be important.”

He checked the screen. “It’s my uncle.” He swiped the phone and listened for a minute. “Preston, Ariel, and I were just leaving the clinic. We can stop by. I’m sure Ariel will want to hear what Hammer had to say.”

She nodded, in case they wanted to know her wishes.

“See you in a minute.” Benson disconnected. “My uncle sounded excited.”

“Do you think he found out who killed Samantha?” she asked.
