“You saved me the first day you opened your mouth and spoke to me.”

“I just wanted my underwear back. You were fondling them.” She smirks.

“I wasn’t fondling the damn things,” I mutter, suddenly feeling incredibly lightheaded. “Do you have any idea…anyidea how much I lush loo.”

Sidney laughs and then pulls her face back and studies me.

“You what?”

Glancing around the yard, it suddenly looks like all the jack-o-lanterns are moving and swaying, but that can’t be right. I look back at Sidney, and there are two of her. That can’t be right either.

“I said I lush loo… lush, luuush… wha’the fuck is wrong with my mouf.”

“What the hell?” Sidney’s arms suddenly wrap around my waist when my feet stumble.

“Oh, shit!” I hear one of the girls start laughing. “Did you by any chance drink some coffee that was delivered here?”

My brain feels fuzzy. What’s coffee?

Oh, wait. There was a coffee delivery at the Gore House. Something about a “welcome to Harvest Grove” thing courtesy of the Jav-A-Lantern.

That was nice of them.

“Yes, about thirty minutes ago,” Finch speaks from the clouds. Or somewhere around here where I can’t see him. “Since it wasn’t French press, lightly toasted by fairies, beans picked by unicorns from Guatemala or some shit, my parents wouldn’t drink theirs. And I hate coffee.”

Right. All the cups had our individual names on them.

“My name is Ford.” I smile at Sidney.

“Son of a bitch! Did you two seriously roofie him?” she screams as I start tipping sideways and she loses her hold on me. The last thing I hear before my lights go out is Sidney rapidly shouting at me in one breath as I go down, making the rest of my dreams come true. “Oh my God I’m so sorry I love you so much we’ll talk about everything else when you wake up!”

“I’m so sorry.”

I chuckle, dropping my feet down from the railing of the porch when I hear Sidney come out to join me again, after she disappeared inside the Gore House a few minutes ago. After my little roofie nap, Sidney shooed everyone away, and we just finished eating a pizza on the porch while we watched the sun go down. Thanks to the new power box on the side of the house with a timer, all the lights inside the pumpkins turned on as soon as it got dark, and I didn’t have to lift a finger.

“Stop apologizing. It didn’t even hurt. I landed on a pile of wet bear cost—”

I immediately forget what I was saying when I turn my head and see Sidney step out from the doorway. Stripped out of her Converse and jeans, wearing nothing but my flannel and her candy corn headband, she pads barefoot across the dark porch, stopping when she’s next to my chair.

“Do you think anyone can see me?”

I have to swallow a few times before I realize she said something to me. Glancing out at the dark yard, I see a few shadows of tourists walking by to check out the lights from down on the sidewalk. The house sits almost a half-acre away from the street, and it’s a really dark night tonight with a bunch of clouds in the sky covering the full moon. The light of the jack-o-lanterns on the porch shines out away from us, and I didn’t turn the porchlight on. The only way anyone can see us is if they come up here onto the porch.

I quickly shake my head as Sidney climbs onto my lap to straddle me.

“We should talk, now that I know you aren’t concussed.”

Her hands slide through my hair, and mine slide up her bare thighs, moving under the hem of my flannel as I go, cursing when my hands grab onto nothing but naked flesh.

“Jesus,” I whisper, digging my fingers into her ass and dragging her across my lap until she’s seated right over the bulge in my jeans. “You expect me to be able to concentrate on anything when you’re naked under here? I thought you went inside to throw our empty pizza box away.”

“I did. Then I stopped in the bathroom and thought I’d show you what you missed when you ghosted me in bed this morning.” She swivels her hips, and I give her a warning growl before she finally kisses the tip of my nose and stops teasing me. Too bad I can feel the heat from her pussy right against the seam of my jeans, and I’m not going to be calming down anytime soon. “I walked into my kitchen thinking you were making me bacon, talking about you giving me oral. In front of my mother.”

Just hearing her say the wordoralmakes my hips jerk up against her.

“Calm down, big guy,” Sidney whispers, gripping my hair in her hands as she gives me a feather-light kiss before pulling back. “We’ll get to that in a minute. We’re talking now. Like grown-ups.”

She pulls her head back a little more, just enough so I can see her face from the faint glow of the pumpkins in the shadows.
