Page 15 of Collecting Her Debt

“I overheard you talking to Zack one night last year about loving them,” he says, taking my hand and leading me farther into the park. I remember that night with Zack. It was right after my grandmother got her terminal diagnosis, and I was a mess and wanted something comforting. I asked him if he had any of those movies, and he told me he doesn't watch stupid chick shit and that I could pick through his collection and find something to watch. I was so mad that night I almost left, but I didn't want to be alone, so I stayed and watched some stupid prank movie that made absolutely no sense at all.

“You heard that?” He nods, his eyes sad as if he remembers what happened that night along with me. “I can't believe you remembered that.” I expect a snarky answer to break the pull between us. Instead, he cups my face, kissing my temple before bringing me into his chest and wrapping those strong arms around me.

“I happen to love these movies. I hate to say I grew up watching them,” he jokes, my mind trying to remember when most of them were released and realizing that he was probably a teenager when they came out.

“I would expect nothing less, old man,” I tease, hugging him tighter as I close my eyes, praying this isn't a dream.

“I happen to have it on good authority that this old man can make you scream as he fucks you into oblivion.” Every last ounce of breath leaves my lungs as those words whisper across my skin.

“Colton.” He chuckles softly, taking my lips in a sweet kiss before pulling away and taking my hand once more. “You can't do that,” I whine, hating the arousal that's now coursing through me. He has the nerve to look innocent as I swat his arm. “You can't turn me on, then do nothing and make me sit in public with a bunch of people.”

“Who says I’m not going to do anything about it?” he whispers against my lips as I stand there, shocked at the words that just came out of his mouth and wondering why this wave of arousal passed over me at the thought of getting off with all these people around us. “Come on, we’re going to be late.”

I expect us to head straight toward the baseball diamond and find a spot to sit. Instead, he veers us toward a booth at the back, picking up a premade bag and giving the woman a twenty.

“What's that?” I ask, noticing that most other couples have one as well.

“It has a blanket to sit on, some snacks, and a few drinks inside,” he says, leading me back toward the baseball diamond. I stand in awe as I take in the large screen hung from the chain-link cage surrounding the diamond and smile as the couples sit and cuddle as they wait for the movie to start.

“How did you find this?” I wonder aloud, watching as Colton unfurls the blanket and sits, motioning for me to do the same. I go to plop myself down beside him, but he makes a grunting noise and motions for me to sit between his legs. When I see that same commanding gaze, I melt, doing exactly as he says.

“Good girl,” he whispers into my ear as my back hits his front, his arms enveloping me. I lean back into his chest, basking in his warmth and wondering how he could be this perfect.

“You didn't answer my question,” I point out, taking the bag in my hands and rummaging through it to see what snack he got. All the good ones are there—Junior Mints, barbecue chips, and Reese’s, plus some Diet Cokes and Sprite.

“One of my companies sponsors this event every year. It's a charity event that's gotten bigger and bigger each year, so I like to support it.”

“What's the charity?” I ask. His body stills behind me, his arms tightening around my waist.

“The Pancreatic Cancer Society.” My intake of breath is sudden and makes me light-headed as my grandmother's face flashes behind my eyes. I spin, my eyes filling with tears as he gives me a sad smile. “I know how much that cause means to you, so I wanted to share this with you.” Of course, he knew. Of course, he knew how my grandmother died, so of course, he would remember and make this night even more special. Words tumble from my brain but never reach my lips. He's incredible. This man is everything I've ever wanted in my life, and he was under my nose for a whole fucking year.

“You're incredible.” Sadness laces his smile as I take his lips once more, trying to express every emotion running through my bones through this kiss, knowing that nothing will ever be enough. “Thank you,” I whisper before he kisses me lightly and spins as the field lights go out and the movie starts.

“Anything for you,” he whispers so low I don't even know if I was meant to hear it, but the words sink deep, penetrating my soul, and I lean back against his chest and let those strong arms wrap around me.

This moment is perfect, yet this sinking feeling of reality crashing down around me hits right in the center of my chest. I push it all away as my gaze lands on the screen in front of me because I will not let the unknown ruin this night.

CHAPTERTWELVE

The next couple of days go by like a blur. I have meetings with the college to go over my payment plan and course selection for next semester, as well as finding an apartment, which is way more difficult than I expected. Colton tried to convince me that I could stay with him after the week was up. As tempting as it is, I know I have to venture out on my own. I take a few shifts at the coffee shop, trying to keep myself busy, but it's a losing game.

Colton and I have only seen each other for a few hours every night before I fall asleep. He makes up for that lost time in orgasms, but I still miss him during the day. He's launching a new line of toys next month, so he's been insanely busy, and we both agreed it would be easier for me to just sleep in his room from now on. So last night, I moved all my clothes from my room to his and smirked at how much space it all took up. Since his closet is full of his clothes, he just told me to put the rack wherever I wanted. He told me he would clear out room for me, but I shook my head, reminding him that I'm leaving in a few days. I don't know what I expected reaction-wise when those words left my mouth, but it wasn’t the scowl I received.

Deep down, I know that leaving is the right thing to do. I need to remind myself that my education is more important than how this man makes me feel every night in his bed. As much as I crave his touch, his tongue, and cock, I can’t lose sight of the fact that I’m inches away from achieving my dream.

Colton: Date night. Tonight.

That’s all the text says as I make my way home. I smirk as I type back a sarcastic reply.

Me: Oh, so you have time for me outside of the bedroom now?

I’m teasing him, but in reality, I’ve missed him and am way too excited about this date.

Colton: Careful, baby girl, that mouth will get you punished.

Me: I have it on good authority that you love my mouth.

Colton: I'm pretty sure I have plans for that mouth later tonight.
